Candyology101 Episode 41: Mango Madness!

 

There's no denying Mango's popularity, especially in the summer. As a former mango hater I still don't get the hype, but I've learned to enjoy and accept it as a part of the usual summer/tropical flavor mix.

On Candyology 101 the three of us....wait, three? YUP! Lauren, aka CandyHunting, is back recording with Cybele and I again!

It's a fruit flavored chewy taffy square that has always lived in Starburst's shadow. On today's Candyology 101 Cybele and I talk about Now and Laters! This tangy taffy may be the enemy of fillings and dental work, but it something I grew up enjoying with my friends and I feel like it's never had it's moment in the sun. There's not much history for this product, but there is something very very wrong with their wiki page.... What am I talking about? Candyology 101 Episode 34 - Mike & Ike

Which is your favorite?

On today's episode of Candyology 101 we take a look at Mike and Ikes. This jelly-bean-like confection comes is a ton of different flavor varieties and it's really affordable, but it's never gotten the same recognition as other fruity candies like Skittles or Starburst.

We take a brief look at this tubular candy to discuss how it's made, how long it's been around, and we share our favorite mixes and individual flavors. Plus! Cybele tries to quiz me to see if I can pick out the legit Mike and Ike mixes in a sea of fakes. (How did I do? Tune in to find out!) Which is your favorite?

On today's episode of Candyology 101 we decided to have a little debate, inspired by the upcoming election here in America.

I am a Milky Way fanatic. It's my favorite American candy bar and I love it to pieces. (Especially when it's frozen.) Cybele prefers Snickers, which is pretty much a Milky Way with peanuts tossed into the mix, and thinks they are the superior candy bar. I disagree. Peanuts ruin it! Which candy bar will come out on top? Will I win Cybele over to the peanut-free side? Tune in to find out, and be sure to share your preferred candy bar below!

Banana Hi-Chew - Gift

Back when Candyology 101 celebrated it's 1-year anniversary, Marvo, who's our producer and the awesome guy behind The Impulsive Buy, sent us a little plaque and some candy to celebrate! Our little goody bags included sweets that were exclusive to Hawaii, and a few tropical flavors of Hi-Chew, which included banana! In case you haven't noticed, I freaking love banana! Now, if you look at my watermark you can tell that these photos are old, and the reason I took so long to post this review is because...I ate the entire package before writing anything up. What can I say? I have no willpower when it comes to banana candies! Thankfully my beloved Asian Food Market just so happened to get these in stock (finally) so now I have a fresh package here to give you all the low-down on this delicious, chewy, addicting goodness.

Candyology 101 Episode 31: Pucker up for some Sour Candy!

We've talked about a ton of the sweet stuff, so today we're focusing on Sour!

It's the sour things in life that make us appreciate the sweet! On today's episode of Candyology 101 we tackle the goodies that make our mouth water and our eyes tear. Everything from the mild Lemonhead to the profuse puckering power of Warheads. To start, I give you a little glimpse of the science behind what makes these sweets so sour, and we talk about the validity of the warning labels on treats like these. Then things get a little less science-y as Cybele and I discuss our favorite go-to sour candies. Plus, we have the fan favorite Treat or Trick section to finish things off and let you know what new goodies are headed our way. It's been a whole YEAR of Candyology 101 podcasts!

Cybele and I have been talking about candy for over a year! (That's a lot of dental bills.) We took a look at EVERYTHING we each reviewed in 2015, which was a LOT of candy, and now we're ready to give all of you a list of our biggest hits, and our most heartbreaking disappointments. Candyology101 - Episode 20 : Salt Water Taffy (Let's get sticky!)

Growing up in New Jersey, salt water taffy has always been synonymous with summer. It instantly makes me think of seagulls, sandy beaches, and those tiny fudge samples they hand out on the Wildwood boardwalk, where every single candy shop sells fudge, and when you buy a pound of that, you get a free box of salty water taffy. It's a "daily" special that has been going on every single day, every summer, since before I was born. (It's a scam for shoebies, but what a delicious scam it is.)
On today's episode, Cybele and I discuss the origin story of this summer classic, compare east and west coast taffy, and brainstorm about what flavors we'd love to see in the future. Tune in and treat yourself to a little taste of summer. (While it lasts. ;_;)
