Oops, I did it Again - I bought $85.00 Worth of Ice Cream

Salt & Straw Summer Picnic Series (5 Flavors)

Salt & Straw ice cream flavors always sound fantastic, but I try not to buy food online because it's expensive. Then, last fall, their Thanksgiving themed 5-pack was just too intriguing to resist. I treated myself to 5 pints of ice cream for $85.00. A pricey payout, BUT every single flavor was amazing and it taught me that cranberry sauce is criminally underused in the ice cream world.

I was so happy with all 5 of those flavors, that when I saw a similarly intriguing summer picnic themed drop, I did it again. I spent another $85.00 on 5 pints of ice cream.

This time the flavors are: Pink Rose & Watermelon Sorbet, Baked Brie & Fig Cheesecake, Chocolate Nocino Cherry Pie, (plus the two I am most excited about) Cinnamon & Honey Fried Chicken, and Deviled Egg Custard with Smoked Black Tea.

Innovation is where Salt & Straw really shines. I loved the combination of salty turkey bacon and tangy cranberry sauce mixed with ice cream, so I am very excited to see if the fried chicken flavor will be equally delicious.

My Kind of Shots - Doritos Crack Pepper Chicken Flavor Shots

Doritos Flavor Shots Crack Pepper Chicken  - Hung Vuong Market

Are Flavor Shots still sold in America? The Frito-Lay website only lists one flavor, Fiery Habanero Triangles, but when you click on it, they're not available for purchase locally or online. I guess they're discontinued state-side? Which goes to show how much attention I pay to Doritos these days.

I can never find new products in my area (RIP Wasabi and the Tangy Cool Ranch flavors I never got to try), and when I do fall in love with something new and interesting, it's discontinued, like my beloved Collisions series. Frito-Lay is like the Bath & Body Works of the snacking world, as soon as you fall in love with something new, it's gone. (But they'll have Japanese Cherry Blossom FOREVER.)

I've had no luck with American Doritos flavors, but what about a Taiwanese one?

A Feast of Thrones - By Sometimes, of House Foodie, First of Her Name, Pom-Leesi, Mother of Pomeranians, Breaker of Diets...

⋠ Game of Thrones Feast

Tonight, we feast! My family celebrated the return of Game of Thrones with a fancy dinner, and I thought I would share our menu.
We aimed for more rustic fair, similar to stuff possibly eaten on the show, with a few themed novelties mixed in.

Tiny Fake Fried Chicken? - Fried Snack

Fried Snack? - Hmart
Interesting packaging strikes again! We've got cartoon chickens, a weird safari-ready mustachioed man with a glove-on a stick? There's a tiny chef, and the promise that these tiny little snacks will look like itty bitty fried chicken legs. How could I resist?

I tossed these into my cart the second I saw them, were they worthy of being purchased? We shall see...

Kung Pao Chicken Mini Egg Rolls - Aldi

When I come home from work I'm HUNGRY, teetering on hangry. I normally start dinner the second I take off my coat, but thanks to being sick with the flu I'm completely out of my go-to quick-dinner staples, so it's time to see what's hiding out in the freezer!

Egg rolls sound good, and even though I feel like I should make something else to go along with them, I'm not. Let's hope they're good!

Butter Chicken Meal Kit - Aldi

Butter Chicken Meal Kit - Aldi
For years I've been looking for a dupe for this discontinued Archer Farms meal kit. It was so freaking good! According to what I've read online, the general public complained that it was too spicy, so it was discontinued and replaced with a lame mild version that doesn't taste as good. BOO!

When I saw that Aldi had a few Journey to India meal kits a while back, I scooped them up, hoping that one of them would be worthy of taking the Archer Farms meal kit's place.

The meal kit I loved was Vindaloo, and spicy, and this is Butter Chicken, which is more mild. Now this flavor won't be exactly what I'm looking for, but it's more palate friendly for my spice-intolerant family, so I decided to cook this one up first so we could all eat dinner together.

Chicken Tikka Samosas - Aldi

Chicken Tikka Samosas - Aldi $3.99
Having a freezer meal on a work night is a necessity for my weekly survival. I always start out healthy with good food choices and making my own meals from scratch, but after a few days of getting slammed at my day-job and doing all this stuff online after-hours for my clients, various blogs and online shops...I'm on the brink of eating an entire box of banana Twinkies and telling myself it's healthy because bananas are a fruit.
I do all of my weekly grocery shopping at Aldi, and they have a decent variety of unique frozen entrees that are always changing. Every week it's something new! (Which can be a good or a bad thing. Sometimes you find something you love, but it's only available for a few days, then it disappears forever.) Aldi usually has a theme to it's weekly circular and offerings. Sometimes it's an upcoming holiday, or sporting event, or specific flavor profile (like spicy foods), but they also have this "Around the World" series where it features a bunch of products from a particular location. They've done Italy, Mexico, Germany, and even India. In case you didn't know, Aldi is a European company (more specifically German), so this is a German company, making Indian food, and selling it in America. It sounds like a bad idea, right? Guess again!

Sweet Chili Chicken- Aldi

Sweet Chili Chicken- Aldi
Something savory?! Thank the foodie gods! For the last two weeks I've reviewed nothing but sweets and I was seriously starting to burn myself out. I need to get some savory snacks queued up before I end up ruining candy for myself forever.

Normally I make home cooked meals after a long day at work, but I've been more busy than usual. Between my day job, freelancing, recording, photo and video editing, review writing and having what little social-life a hermit like me can handle, I'm completely and utterly burnt out. Tonight I'm phoning it in and we're having a freezer meal. (It's gotta be better than ordering take-out, right?)

Grilled Chicken with Jerk Sauce Pizza - Aldi: Cherry Hill, NJ

Grilled Chicken with Jerk Sauce Pizza - Aldi: Cherry Hill, NJ
This week has been absolutely crazy, and even though I have a ton of edited photos ready to go, I'm having a really hard time sitting down and typing. (Even though I run a food blog, writing is something I've always struggled with, and it's gotten easier with practice, but I still struggle with it a lot.) My thoughts are so spastic and I find it very hard to focus! Hopefully this review makes sense, because it's long overdue.

Anyway, I wanted to review something fun and interesting, and what's cooler than a Jerk chicken pizza?

Chicken & Waffle Chicken Chunks - Aldi

Chicken & Waffle Chicken Chunks - Aldi
Chris B. over on Facebook nailed it! The photo I posted the other day was chicken and waffles! Well, not really, but it's chicken & waffle flavored, so that totally counts.

I posted this item on Instagram nearly a month ago, and I thought it was pretty interesting, but I didn't buy it. After a few more grocery runs I saw the supply dwindling, so I figured I better give these a try before they sold out. (If they're selling they must be good, right? I'm a sheeple.)

Crispy Oven Baked Wings

Crispy Oven Baked Wings- Pinterest Recipe Review : The PIN The RECIPE
Today I have another post based on my YouTuber obsession, this time I was inspired by Chef John from FoodWishes.com. As the name suggests, he's a chef and he's a YouTuber, I've been subscribed to him for a long time now and I've tried several of his recipes. (All of them worked out great.) Yesterday I found a bag of chicken wings in my freezer, and I figured I might as well try out his method for making oven-baked wings that are (nearly) as crispy as fried ones. The results? SUCCESS!

Crispy Chicken and Waffle Slider- White Castle: Tomsriver, NJ

Crispy Chicken and Waffle Slider- White Castle: Tomsriver, NJ

Sorry I've been so inconsistent with reviews lately. I'm trying to find a better balance between this blog and my art blog plus I am preparing to sell at a Con next month, so my schedule is pretty hectic after work. Please bear with me, but in the meantime, check out this adorable little waffle sandwich!

As I have stated before, I love White Castle. Whenever they post something new I get really excited, and the location that's closest to me is a 2 and a half hour drive there and back, so when I do get the chance to get my tiny burger fix I have to try everything that I see that's new. (Like the Ultimate Sriracha Chicken Slider.)

Ultimate Sriracha Chicken Slider- White Castle: Tomsriver, NJ

Ultimate Sriracha Chicken Slider- White Castle: Tomsriver, NJ
I hope all of the American's out there (myself included) have a lovely holiday weekend!

I love White Castle, but to be honest I really don't have any reason why I love it as much as I do. The food is far from healthy, the quality of the ingredients is pretty typical for fast food, and the nearest location for me is over an hour away, but there's just something about this little burger chain that makes me inexplicably happy.

After breaking my 14 year streak of not eating Taco Bell, which my boyfriend loves, I figured it was only fair for him to do the same and break his over a decade streak of not eating White Castle. (Well non-frozen White Castle anyway.) Plus, there are new little sriracha chicken sliders available right now! I had to give those a try before they disappeared, so off to White Castle we went.

Everything is more delicious when it's tiny, right?

I'm addicted.
Guess where we were yesterday?

Post on the new Ultimate Sriracha Chicken Sliders coming very soon!

Chicken Club Pizza - Aldi: Cherry Hill, NJ
This month, along with all the gluten free goodies, Aldi got a bunch of fancy frozen pizzas. Normally I stick to veggie pizzas, but this one caught my eye.

Indiya - March Restaurant Week : Collingswood, NJ

Indiya - March Restaurant Week : Collingswood, NJ
It’s restaurant week! If any of you are New Jersey locals, you should already know about Collingswood and it’s restaurants. For restaurant week, participating locations make a special menu for the event (usually 3-4 courses) and list it at a pretty reasonable price. This is something I look forward to every year, and tonight my boyfriend and I ate at Indiya.

Honey Teriyaki Hot Wings - Pinterest Recipe Review

Honey Teriyaki Hot Wings - Pinterest Recipe Review : The PIN The RECIPE
If any of you are on Pinterest, you know how easy it is to get carried away and pack your boards with fancy recipes you never end up using. (Or is that just me?) My Food & Recipe board is out of control! I want to clean house and make sure that all of the recipes I'm hoarding are keepers, so there are going to be more Pinterest Recipe Reviews posted in the future.

To kick things off, one of my favorite foods ever, hot wings! These aren't your typical take-out buffalo wings either, these are Teriyaki style.
