Cinnamon Roll Dessert Delights- Target: Marlton, NJ

Cinnamon Roll Dessert Delights- Target: Marlton, NJ
I've always loved the Dessert Delights chewing gum line, but there have been quite a few hits and misses with the newer flavors.  (Check out my reviews HERE.)
This new flavor was announced over on The Impulsive Buy almost a month ago, and  I've been keeping an eye out for it the last few weeks but it wasn't until yesterday that I was finally able to get a package to review. (A lot of stores didn't even carry the Dessert Delights line. Is it on it's way out?)

Alright, time to open this package up and see if this is as yummy as Lemon Square, or as disappointing as Orange Creme Pop.

Peach Cobbler Extra Dessert Delights Gum - ???

Peach Cobbler Extra Dessert Delights Gum - ???
Finally! A new flavor of Dessert Delights gum that might actually work!
The original flavors (Key Lime Pie, Mint Chocolate Chip, and Strawberry Shortcake) were amazing, and I was really excited to see how Extra planned on expanding the line, but the new flavors have been a real let down.

With the exception of Root Beer Float and Lemon Square, I ultimately regretted buying each one of the new releases. Apple Pie, Orange Creme Pop, Rainbow Sherbet, and Raspberry Vanilla Cupcake all missed the mark. Unlike the originals, they tasted like cheap imitations of their namesakes, and some of the flavors even had textural issues. Maybe I got a bad batch, but the orange flavor became really hard to chew after just a few minutes. I bought that flavor almost a year ago and I still haven't finished it! It's still sitting around here somewhere.

Although this brand has let me down quite a bit, I was still keeping up to date with their new flavors and releases hoping that a new delicious flavor would be announced. Secretly, I was hoping that Bananas Foster, which was in their flavor contest about a year ago, was going to be the newest flavor, but it turned out to be Peach Cobbler. I had tried to find this flavor at my local Target, but they didn't even have it on the shelves yet. Thankfully, my boyfriend surprised me with a pack of this Peach Cobbler gum in my x-mas stocking this year (thank you Pumpkin).

Raspberry Vanilla Cupcake Extra Dessert Delights - Target : Moorestown, NJ

Raspberry Vanilla Cupcake Extra Dessert Delights - Target : Moorestown, NJ
As of right now, I have had every flavor in the Dessert Delights line. (Although I’ve only posted reviews for about half of them.)

Today I’ll be reviewing Raspberry Vanilla Cupcake, the newest flavor. I’ve been a fan of this gum since the beginning. Key lime pie (which is now retired) was my absolute favorite! I’m not 100% sure, but this flavor might replace Strawberry Shortcake. (They seem to be making some changes to the flavor lineup.)
The packaging follows the same guidelines as the other flavors. There are flowing stripes of color that coordinate with the flavor, and there is a photo of the real dessert the gum is based on.

When it was announced, I wasn’t too sure about this flavor. Don’t get me wrong, I love raspberries. It’s just that Raspberry flavored foods can come off as candle-y or perfume-y. With that being said, this gum definitely smells like something from Bath and Body Works. This smells like a really nice raspberry lotion, not like a yummy candy or gum.

Extra Dessert Delights (Lemon Square) - Target : Cherry Hill, NJ

Extra Dessert Delights (Lemon Square) - Target : Cherry Hill, NJ
I loved the Dessert Delights gum when it first came out. All three of the original flavors were fantastic! As the line expanded, the newer flavors were very disappointing. Out of orange creme pop, rainbow sherbet and root-beer float…I only liked root-beer float. I wasn’t going to give any more of the new flavors a chance, until I saw lemon square. My love of everything lemon overcame my disappointment in this gum and I had to give it a try. (That and Target has a .50 off coupon on their site making the gum .49 cents.)

I love all the packaging for this line. Every flavor follows the same overall design scheme but with a color complimentary to the dessert flavor. Lemon square is bright, cheery, and refreshing to look at. The yellows are bright, without being obnoxious or blinding.

Rainbow Sherbet Extra Dessert Delights - Target : Cherry Hill, NJ

Rainbow Sherbet Extra Dessert Delights - Target : Cherry Hill, NJ
So far we had a hit (root beer float) and a miss (orange creme pop). I guess this flavor will be a tie-breaker. Are the new flavor additions overall good? Or bad?

This package has a delightful rainbow design to match it’s colorful flavor. I love sherbet in all flavors. As children, rainbow sherbet is a summer staple! I haven’t had it in years (this is something I need to remedy).
The package smells a bit citrus-y. The smell actually reminds me of those Haribo Fruits Salad mix. The smell makes sense because most of the rainbow sherbet I have had include lemon and lime.

Orange Creme Pop Extra Dessert Delights - Target : Cherry Hill, NJ

Orange Creme Pop Extra Dessert Delights - Target : Cherry Hill, NJ
The root beer float flavor turned out to be really yummy and a great addition to the Dessert Delights line up. Would orange creme pop be the same?

The packaging this time has a red-orange color scheme with an orange creamsicle in the lower right corner. Creamsicle is actually copyrighted, but I have always called all vanilla x orange flavor combinations creamsicle. (I guess it’s like how people call all sodas ‘coke’)

Root Beer Float Extra Dessert Delights - Target : Cherry Hill, NJ

Root Beer Float Extra Dessert Delights - Target : Cherry Hill, NJ
The Extra Dessert Delights line has been great from the get-go. Starting with key lime pie, strawberry shortcake, and mint chocolate chip ice cream, the yummy flavors and kitchy packaging sold well.

Now they have now started to branch out and make some more flavor options. This is one of the newest they have to offer, root beer float.

The package follows the general design layout of the previous flavors, flowing design in like-colors with a photo of the real dessert the gum is based on.

The gum smells just like the hard-candy root beer barrels I used to eat as a kid.

The gum starts out being a very sweet vanilla, which gradually gives way to a nice root beer soda flavor. I can taste a little bit of an artificial sweetener after-taste, but this gum is pretty spot on!

I tastes really refreshing, and since I have never had a root beer flavored gum before, it’s unique! I think this is a great addition to the Dessert Delights line up and I would buy it again!

Extra Dessert Delights Gum - Target : Cherry Hill, NJ

Extra Dessert Delights Gum - Target : Cherry Hill, NJ
This line of gum caught my eye right at the get go. The original three flavors were:
  • Key Lime Pie
  • Strawberry Shortcake
  • Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream
I loved every single one of them! The key lime pie and mint chocolate chip ice cream tasted extremely authentic. The strawberry shortcake flavor was really nice too, but tastes like cake bought at a grocery store, and that made it my least favorite of the three.
I am excited that the flavor line is expanding! The only additional flavor that isn’t pictured is apple pie. I had a packet of the gum, ate it all, and disposed of it before before I ever thought to take a picture. (boooo)
I wonder if I’ll like these flavors as much as the original…
