Haribo is Turning Blue for their 100th Birthday - I'm Blue, Gummi-dee, Gummie-dye!

Something tragic occurred in my personal life back in January and it really threw me for a loop. I haven't been able to focus or find the energy to do anything outside of my day job and maintaining my house and pets. Running this blog makes me happy (even if it doesn't pay the bills) so I am trying to dip my toes back into it in an effort to regain a bit of happiness and normalcy in my life, so I picked something quick and easy to kick things off. (FYI these reviews aren't posting in order. so I buried this rougher one under a few of my more "normal" posts from when I got a bit better.)

There is only one new flavor in this bag, but I love gummy candy so much that I couldn't resist making this it's own post, so we'll just focus on one new flavor/shape.

Double Dose of Melon Goodness - Haribo Watermelon and Major Melon MTN Dew

Watermelon Haribo & Major Melon MTN Dew

Spring has sprung, literally yesterday, but I'm already craving summer, and nothing says "summer" like watermelon. I have two different products today, one a candy, the other essentially humming bird nectar, who wants to take bets that I'll be bouncing off the walls later?

Heads or Tails?

Swedish Fish Tails
Is there anyone out there that prefers the mixed-flavor Swedish Fish to the original red?

Maybe I'm just a Swedish Fish purist, but red fishies are the only fishies for me. However, it seems like Swedish Fish as a brand are changing with the times and branching out. We now have tropical fish, Crush Soda fish, and these fruity two-toned fish joining the...ocean? Tank? Family?

Whatever the terminology, It's nice to see a classic candy changing with the times, but will these new flavors live up to the original?

Coming Soon: Lifesavers Gummies COOLERS & NEONS

Image © Lifesavers Website

I was doing a little research while I was writing up my latest Lifesavers Gummies review and noticed a new flavor "coming soon" on their website. Take a look at these!

We've got 5 different drink-inspired flavors.
- Cherry Limeade (Interesting...)
- Raspberry Iced Tea (Really wanna see how this one works out...)
- Fruit Punch (Kind of a cop-out)
- Blue Raspberry Slushy (Another cop-out)
- Watermelon Breeze (Kind of a cop-out too, but I'm still mildly interested)

Also on Shelves right now are Lifesavers Gummies NEONS, which are oddly enough not mentioned on the website at all.

We've got 5...Neon-inspired flavors? What does that mean? I don't know either...
- Bold Berry (...what?)
- Orange Pop (How will it be different than orange?)
- Pink Punch (Pink Fruit Punch?)
- Cherry Lime Splash (Wait a minute...I smell a repeat)
- Electric Lemonade (Great band name!)

What do you guys think? Will you be trying either flavor?

Lifesavers Gummies Exotics - Target $1.50

Lifesavers Gummies Exotics - Target $1.50
Two candy reviews from the same store back to back? Yup! Those jelly beans were so bad that I had to review something else to get the bad taste out of my mouth.

Oddly enough, these were also on sale at Target, and like Starbursts, this is another candy aisle staple that rarely disappoints. Sure, I wasn't a huge fan of the Paradise Mix, but the Tangy Collisions, Wild Berries and standard mixes are awesome!

Let's hope this will do the trick and lift my sugar-infused spirits.

Grape Fettuccine Gummi - Asian Food Markets

Grape Fettuccine Gummi - Asian Food Markets
Check it out! The blog got a (very slight) facelift! I don't have enough time to dissect all the coding and give this place the complete update it deserves, but hey, it's a start!

One of my goals for 2017 was to update the blog, and another was to be less of a food hoarder. I've been cleaning through my stash (slowly) and honestly, it's pretty bad. I completely forgot what I had already purchased, so I've found a few repeats, along with a bunch of products I never knew I had, like these Grape Fettuccine gummies.

When did I buy these? I don't know! But they look yummy, so I'm going to quickly review them before they disappear into the pantry-void, never to be seen again.

Cola Fettuccine Gummi - Asian Food Markets

Cola Fettuccine Gummi - Asian Food Markets
Think last week sugared me out? Think again! Gummi candy is my absolute favorite! When I was in high school I would go to the mall every weekend, not to hang out and get cool clothes like the rest of my peers, but to stuff a plastic bag with various gummi creatures at the (now closed) bulk candy store. Back then I may or may not have "freed" some large gummi sharks into the food court water fountain. Ah, those were good times. (Especially for my dentist. Pretty sure my teenage cavities personally paid for his kid to go to college. You're welcome! Also, yes, I'm still stuck in a Maui-hole. Send help.)

Let's rack up more dental bills and munch on some cola candy!

efrutti Gummi Candy Pizza - Five Below

efrutti Gummi Candy Pizza Five Below
I hope you had an awesome weekend, because I did!

I hosted a BBQ for my friends on Saturday, spent some time with my family and filmed a few more YouTube video reviews on Sunday, and I even found a little time to relax on Monday. (Which was glorious!)

My idea of relaxing involved playing a LOT of Rogue Legacy, a nap, and enjoying a cotton candy scented bubble bath. I haven't felt this rested in ages, and rather than jump into a healthy or long-winded food review, I thought I would take it easy and write up something fun and short. So here's a tiny gummy pizza pie!

Haribo Sour Golden Bears - Five Below

Haribo Sour Golden Bears - Five Below
Months ago a reader contacted me and asked me to review Haribo's Sour bears and I'm now I'm finally doing it! Slowly but surely I'm making my way through my massive food horde.

Hello Kitty Gummy Candy - Sun Seng Market

Hello Kitty Gummy Candy - Sun Seng Market
I think we all recognize this iconic little kitty. (Although she's apparently a little girl?) Cat, human, whatever she may be, she's been around for 40 years and even though this isn't specifically Valentine's Day themed, it's pink and red with hearts, so what better time to review it than now?
This is a novelty product, so the main selling point is the packaging. They want to sucker us all in with that iconic Sanrio-cuteness, and you know what? It totally works. (It got me and I'm not even a big Hello Kitty fan.) We have a bunch of adorable Hello Kitty illustrations scattered on a resealable foiled plastic pouch containing a small amount of candy. It's adorable, collectible, and the gummies themselves are shaped like Hello Kitty's iconic bow so you get a double whammy of cuteness.

Speaking of the bow shaped gummies, they're really cute, but they have this weird edible-glitter-like coating that I don't understand. Is it intentional? Or are these coated ina little too much food-grade wax? It's kind of neat, like they're coated in clear glitter, but these could just be old or something. I can't really tell.

Inside there are two flavors:

Peach
(translucent pink): Once you get through the weird waxy coating, the gummi tastes very sweet and mild. It's a bit on the floral side of things, but it tastes a lot more realistic than other peach flavored candies I've had in the past. (I still think the Kasugai gummies are better, but there aren't half bad.) It's enjoyable, and not bad for a novelty product, but I know I can get better peach flavored gummies elsewhere.

Apple (translucent redish-peach): Again, once you get through that weird waxy outside, the flavoring is pretty nice. These apple gummies are tangy and more concentrated than the peach, and it's almost like they took apple juice concentrate and turned it into a gummy candy. I like this one more than the other, but you don't get that many in this bag, and it's pretty pricey, but this flavor is on-par with Kasugai's.

This is a really cute novelty product for fans of Hello Kitty, and the flavoring is more authentic than a lot of gummies on the American market, but the portion size is really small and these are pretty expensive. If you're looking for delicious fruity gummies to snack on, and you want to spend a little money, I suggest getting Kasugai ones instead. However, if you're looking for an edible gift for a Sanrio fan, these are pretty gppd for a novelty product and I don't think anyone would dislike them.

Gummy Bears- Trader Joe's

Gummy Bears
- Trader Joe's
Okay, so...I went a little overboard doing my "homework" for our Trader Joe's themed Candyology 101 podcast. I just could't help myself! I wanted to give Trader Joe's a fair chance, so I got all kinds of different confections to review. I even bought a few I  thought I would hate so that I'd have something interesting to talk about, but that backfired. The closest thing to a disappointing product from Trader Joe's has been the jelly beans, and even they weren't really bad. I still have a few items from that haul left over to review, but thankfully we're nearing the end.
Alright, let's go bite the heads off some gummy bears!
