Gummies? For Breakfast?

Froot Loop Gummies

Like most novelty items, I thought this was a gimmick. That these would look like Froot Loops, but taste like generic fruity flavors: cherry, lime, grape, etc. Turns out, I was wrong.

I should have known better. Froot Loop Pop-Tarts were impressively accurate. Why would gummy candy be any different?

Tiny Burgers, Fries, and Fruits, Oh MY! - 4D Gummies

4D Gummies - Dollar Tree

I bought these because I wanted to photograph them. I mean, look at them! They're little 3D gummy shapes of fruits and burgers and stuff. It's like, my kryptonite. But, I know what I'm getting into. After my experience with 4D Gummies (which were also from Dollar Tree) I knew these would likely be more of a fun visual novelty than a decent candy.

So I am going into this with a healthy amount of skepticism and very low expectations. (Kind of like dating in your 30's, am I right? Self-burn.)

Let's jump right into it!

Hong Kong Strawberry Gummy - Hung Vuong Market

Strawberry Gummy - Hung Vuong Food Market

I picked these up for two reasons, one: because it looked pretty, and two: because it's a gummy, and gummy candies are my favorite.

A strawberry gummy candy is a pretty safe bet no matter where it comes from or who makes it, so I thought this was going to be a short and simple review. I was wrong.

Crocos & Magic Mouse - Lidl Gummies

Crocos and Magic Mouse Gummies - Lidl

I am 90% sure these are rip offs of Haribo's Crocos and Mice, just Lidl-ified, but since those particular Haribo products are hard to find around here (in New Jersey) I figured I'd give these a shot and see how they taste!

Heads or Tails?

Swedish Fish Tails
Is there anyone out there that prefers the mixed-flavor Swedish Fish to the original red?

Maybe I'm just a Swedish Fish purist, but red fishies are the only fishies for me. However, it seems like Swedish Fish as a brand are changing with the times and branching out. We now have tropical fish, Crush Soda fish, and these fruity two-toned fish joining the...ocean? Tank? Family?

Whatever the terminology, It's nice to see a classic candy changing with the times, but will these new flavors live up to the original?

TERRIBLE Tuesday - Super Mario 3D Fruit Gummies

Super Mario 3D Fruit Gummies - Dollar Tree ($1.00)
Two years ago I reviewed 3-D Nintendo gummies, and I really liked them. The flavors were enjoyable, and the bite was soft like a gumdrop, but it was the attention to detail in the candy molds that really blew me away. I was sad that none of the Nintendo ladies were represented (did we really need Diddy Kong if we already had DK?), but overall I really liked this product and wanted to re-purchase it for some off-the-blog snacking. Apparently it's gone through some changes and...well, I nearly called this post "Abomination Tuesday." It lacked alliteration, so I opted for Terrible, which in my opinion is a bit of an understatement. Something's gone horribly, horribly wrong...

Candyology101 Episode 17: The Happy World of Haribo!

On today's episode of Candyology101, Cybele and I discuss one of the biggest gummy candy producers in the world, Haribo! I took the reigns for today's episode, and to be honest, I got a little carried away. This might be one of our longest shows yet! I'm just too passionate about gummy candy for my own good.

We have a little bit of history behind the company, a look at their top 10 American and German products, a list of items available overseas we'd love to try, and even butts with ears! (Confused? Check out the links on Candyology101 to see what I'm talking about.) Join us as we discuss the good, the bad, and the just plain weird.

How many items on our list did you try?

Have you been liking Candyology101 so far?

Please head on over to itunes and give us a little review to let us know how we're doing.

Wonka Randoms- Target: Cherry Hill, NJ

Shuttlecock? Or Dalek? The fact that it is next to a bow tie makes me wonder...
Wonka Randoms- Target: Cherry Hill, NJ
I know that I said I was going to be posting random reviews along with my pumpkin ones, but I didn't think my first non-pumpkin post would be so literal!

I saw these over on Candyblog back in July, and although the flavors are pretty traditional as far as gummy candies go, all of the shapes and fun photos in Cybele's post made this product too cute to pass up.

Kasugai Gummi Sampler (Muscat and Pineapple) - Chinatown, PA

Kasugai Gummi Sampler (Muscat and Pineapple) - Chinatown, PA
To see what the other gummies tasted like, check out my reviews apple, grape and orange.
Time for the last two flavors-pineapple and muscat.
