Are You PURERAL? Sour Watermelon Gummies from Kabaya

Pureral Sour Gummy Candy (Watermelon flavor) -  H-Mart
Pureral? Sounds like an off-brand hand sanitizer, and as I type this my web browser keeps trying to autocorrect it into "Puberal," which, is hilarious. It's not a name that easily rolls off the tongue, but hopefully the candy inside is more appetizing.
A week ago I planned on making DIY Poke/Sushi bowls for dinner, so I stopped at H-Mart to grab a few last-minute ingredients and one does not simply go to H-Mart without checking out the candy section. (You can't see it, but I am doing the Sean Bean hand thing. #oldmemeisold) Surprisingly, I didn't see anything new or interesting. Have I finally exhausted all that the H-Mart candy aisle has to offer?
It took a bit of digging, but I spotted a few flavors of these Pureral gummies on a lower shelf which look like a variation of the PURE gummy candies I've had before, but now they're sour, and cube-shaped, with a filling! Of the flavors available (which were grape and some other safe-fruit flavoring I can't remember), watermelon sounded the most appealing, so...here we are!

Kabaya Ju-C Gold Mix tablets- Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ

Kabaya Ju-C Gold Mix tablets- Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ

This is my last container of Ju-C tablets. (Until I find some more.) Also, sorry for today's delay. If you follow me on Instagram you'll see that my dog has been wearing a cone and he is utterly miserable. It's like having a new born baby. Although the cone properly fits, he refuses to eat, drink, or go potty while wearing it. So he requires a LOT of assistance, and I need to take it off and supervise him when he eats or goes outside. It's a mixture of being a new mom and a member of the secret service. Thankfully it was a minor injury and he should be cone-free as of this weekend.
Anyway, let's get this candy review started!

So far I have already reviewed the watermelon variety (HERE) and a citrus mix (HERE). Although the orange candies weren't as good as the others, I haven't been disappointed by Kabaya yet. I think Ju-C is a really great candy, so I grabbed another tube to review.

Kabaya Ju-C Lemon and Orange tablets- Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ

Kabaya Ju-C Lemon and Orange tablets- Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ
I finally found more Ju-C tablets!
I reviewed the watermelon variety about a year ago (read the review HERE) and they were absolutely addicting. I wanted to see if the rest of the Ju-C line was as flavorful, but it was tricky to find more of this candy in my area. (My local Asian grocery stores are a bit like Aldi, things come and go at random, so you can buy it once and it may never been seen again.) FINALLY I found two new tubes with 3 different flavors!
Other than the obvious visual clues, like what flavor this is, I can't read much of the packaging, so I looked up the official website. (I used Google's translationg service to help me make odds and ends of things.) Like a lot of Japanese candies, the flavors are always changing. This specific flavor combination and package seems to be from Kabaya's 45th anniversary...which was back in 2010. So this candy I have is a little old, but I'm sure it's still good. (I hope. ;_;)

Kabaya KariPori (Apple) - Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ (PHOTO HEAVY)

Kabaya KariPori (Apple) - Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ
For those of you who celebrated, I hope you had a lovely Christmas!
Now that all the hectic holiday madness is over, it's time to finish up my KariPori candy reviews. This post will cover the apple candy sticks, while my next one will discuss the mystery flavors. (That means there is a double post today!)

Kabaya KariPori (Strawberry) - Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ (PHOTO HEAVY)

Kabaya KariPori (Strawberry) - Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ
A new variety pack of Kabaya's candy sticks? Awesome!
I really liked the texture of the soda variety, so I am looking forward to trying some new fruity flavors.

Since these are visually very busy, there are going to be a LOT of photos. To prevent things from getting TOO photo heavy, I am breaking this review up into 3 flavor-related posts. (Today will be strawberry!)
When looking at the box, it is pretty obvious that they were going for a magic theme. There are playing cards, top hats, white doves, and lots of question marks. Sadly, I can't read any of the text. (Can anyone translate?) The only translation I was able to find was this description from TofuCute:
"The word "karipori" is a Japanese onomatopoeia, for the sound the candy makes when it's eaten - "kari" when you snap it in half with your teeth, and "pori" when you crunch down on it."
That doesn't help me too much with this specific package, but at least the candy's name makes a lot more sense!

Kabaya Karipori Candy Stick - Ramune Review - SunSeng Market : Pennsauken, NJ

Kabaya Karipori Candy Stick - Ramune Review
- SunSengMarket : Pennsauken, NJ
Sorry for the brief hiatus. Things are finally starting to settle down a bit and I can get back to my regular update schedule. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding.

I already discussed the packaging and the cola flavored candy. (Posted HERE!)

So today we’ll focus on the ramune candy and it’s wrappers.

Kabaya Karipori Candy Stick - Cola Review - SunSeng Market : Pennsauken, NJ

Kabaya Karipori Candy Stick - Cola Review
- SunSeng Market : Pennsauken, NJ
Although I am not the biggest fan of ramune, I picked this up because Kabaya brand items are kinda rare in my area. (I think I have only found the Ju-C tablets so far, and those were delicious.)

Since I can't read much of the box, I have to rely on the images to figure out what kind of candy this might be. Right off the bat the easiest thing to understand is the flavors, seeing as they are in English and all the images relate to soda, I can safely assume that this is some kind of cola and ramune flavored candy. After that, things get a little fuzzy. The image on the packaging looks like some kind of biscuit stick, similar to Pocky, but these might just be solid candy. I also think that this might be a fizzy candy. (Since the cola cans are bubbling over and most soda related candies use some kind of fizzy add in.) I think my guesses are spot on, but I'll just have to open it up to find out for sure.

Kabaya Puchi Pasuteru - Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ

Kabaya Puchi Pasuteru - Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ
It’s been a while since I reviewed anything from the Asian Food Market. I picked this package up back in October and never got around to reviewing it, better late than never.
The box is really bright and busy. There is a LOT going on here. The entire box is absolutely covered in information. The front has the least going on, it features little chocolate ice cream cones and a cute bear mascot. (Isn’t he adorable?) The rest of the box is covered in words I can’t understand, and math. That’s right, MATH! There are 5 flavors of “ice cream” and 4 cone options, so there are 20 different possible combinations inside. I really liked this, because I have always liked math, and it’s fun to include education with candy.

Kabaya Ju-C Watermelon Tablets - Asian Food Market : Cherry Hill, NJ

Kabaya Ju-C Watermelon Tablets - Asian Food Market : Cherry Hill, NJ
Time for something new! This time I picked up Kabaya’s Ju-C Watermelon tablets! According to THIS SITE these candies have a bit of calcium in them to promote health, but the nutritional information on my package says they contain 0% Calcium for the whole tube. Oh well, candy-is-candy!
