Tastes like Soap, but in a Good Way?

Choward's Violet Mints

I have a LOT of hobbies. There's this blog, my Etsy shop, feeding (and hopefully trapping) a few local feral cats, sewing, cooking, baking, art/drawing, watching/collecting movies, and on top of all that...I collect vintage goods. Mostly vintage cameras and projectors, but I also collect vintage books, records, 45's, and other knick-knacks. This summer in particular I went down a strange rabbit hole and found myself obsessed with vintage metal trivets. Why? How? I have no idea, but it happened, and now I am the proud owner of 5 of them hanging in my kitchen. So why not add vintage candy to the mix?

Mike and Ike Cotton Candy - Dollar Tree

Mike and Ike Cotton Candy - Dollar Tree
In preparation for our next Candyology 101 recording, I grabbed a few different flavors of Mike and Ike candies from the Dollar Tree, which carries a pretty wide variety of flavors. I'm a sucker for cute retro stuff, and my mother loves cotton candy sweets, so picking this one from the lineup was a no brainer!

Teaberry Gum - Wegman's: Cherry Hill, NJ

Teaberry Gum - Wegman's: Cherry Hill, NJ
Here's a little something we were discussing over on Candyology101, Teaberry gum! This retro little candy was really popular in the 1960's, when my mom was born, and she remembered chewing on it as a kid, while I remember seeing it on grocery shelves as a child of the late 80's. It didn't seem super popular at the time, and I don't recall chewing it when I was little, but it's still being produced and carried by a few candy shops and grocery stores today! (Although it's become a little hard to find.) Thankfully I found a pack at Wegman's, so I thought I'd write up a little review for those of you who have never heard of this sweet chewable treat before.

Coffee Time Syrup - ShopRite: Berlin, NJ (Quickie Review)

Coffee Time Syrup - ShopRite: Berlin, NJ
Chocolate milk for coffee addicted adults! Are any of you subscribed to foodie Youtuber, Emmymadeinjapan? (If not, you should be.) She made a video last year talking about coffee milk, which is the official drink of Rhode Island. Over a year later, I happened to be wandering around a grocery store (waiting for my car to be serviced), and I found a bottle of coffee syrup to make my own coffee milk! From what I've read online, it seems like this is the branding and packaging for the same syrup Emmy reviewed in Rhode Island, but this is how that brand markets to other states. I figured it would make an interesting review item, plus it might be something new for my coffee addicted boyfriend to try, so into my cart it went.

There isn't much to this product, so this is going to be a really quick review.

Fentiman’s Traditional Rose Lemonade - Cinema 16:9: Lansdown, PA

Fentiman’s Traditional Rose Lemonade
- Cinema 16:9: Lansdown, PA
A while ago my boyfriend and I decided to be nerdy and we went to a screening of the Madoka Magica movie. The film was being shown at an independent movie theater called Cinema 16:9, which I had never heard of before, and it was awesome! (I am a pop-culture and movie junkie as well as sometimes foodie.) They served old fashioned bottled sodas, showed small indie films, and decorated the place with decoupaged film stills. If you’re nearby go and check it out!
I was VERY close to buying all the bottled sodas to try, but settled on the old fashioned rose lemonade. The bottle looked so lovely and unique I had to photograph it. Typically I am not a fan of floral flavors, but the packaging really won me over.

Jersey-Creme Soda - Franklin Fountain : Philadelphia, PA

Jersey-Creme Soda - Franklin Fountain : Philadelphia, PA
"The PERFECT Drink"
This was another glass bottled soda I picked up back when I was at the Franklin Fountain. Not to be TOO cliche, but I AM a Jersey girl and I figured I should review a “Jersey” soda.
When I looked it up, it turns out this soda has quite the history! It was one of America’s first creme sodas! This beverage was originally used as a concentrate to make other creme flavored beverages.
