Liquid Terminator Water Ice?

Don't judge my badly chipped polish too harshly!
Unicorn Water Ice  - Rita's Italian Ice
The foodie fascination with unicorn-everything has been going strong for about two years now. (Although there has recently been a notable detour through mermaids.) And I get it, unicorns are fun, they're colorful, they're magical, but...they don't taste like anything.
We all know unicorns do not exist, and the concept of them isn't associated with any particular flavor or food imagery, so what classifies something as "unicorn" flavored? Well, according to Starbucks (whom I blame for all of this), unicorns taste like mango, sour blue raspberry, and immediate regret. Project 7 thinks unicorns taste like tropical fruit. Which pretty much concludes why foray into unicorn-flavored territory. Until now. So, what is Rita's take?

Blood Orange Water Ice - Quickie Review

Blood Orange Water Ice - Quickie Review

So Rita's announced their newest flavor about a week ago, which was blood orange, and it sounded interesting, until I saw that Texas is getting a Dr. Pepper flavored ice. Lucky Texas!

I can't help be feel disappointed by comparison. I like blood orange, because I like all citrus juices and flavors, but I have a feeling that this water ice is more gimmick than anything else. Did Rita's really formulate a whole new flavor syrup for this item? Or did they just add red dye to their preexisting orange flavoring? Let's find out!

Orange Starburst Water Ice - Rita’s

Orange Starburst Water Ice - Rita’s
More Starburst flavored Rita's!

I've reviewed the Strawberry version in the past, which was pretty yummy, and it sold so well that two other flavors were released. This year you can pick up a cherry or orange Starbust-flavored ice, but I doubt lemon will be making an appearance. From what I understand, Alex's Lemonade Stand has the monopoly on Rita's lemon flavored ice. If Starburst wants to keep releasing water ice flavors, they are most likely going to try some of their Tropical themed one.

Let's see if this Orange Starburst ice is any different from a typical orange one.

Strawberry Starburst Water Ice - Rita’s

Strawberry Starburst Water Ice - Rita’s
I actually totally forgot all about this, so it’s been sitting in my freezer for a while. (Oops.)

My sister used to work for Rita’s, and every once and a while she visits her old store to buy the latest flavors. About a month ago she got me this little cup of the Strawberry Starburst water ice to review. (And I tossed it in the freeer and forgot about it. Sorry Manda.)

The packaging is nothing really special, so I’ll skip over it and focus on the flavor.
Unlike most frozen desserts, this actually has a scent. This smells sweet, like cotton candy, but it doesn’t quite replicate the Starburst candy aroma.
Taking a taste…it’s almost 100% spot on. To me the actual strawberry Starbursts have a bit of tangy-ness to them, which this water ice lacks, but the overall flavor is pretty authentic.

I am guessing the Swedish Fish flavor was so popular that Rita’s has decided to expand their candy flavored water ice line. If so, I am excited to try more.
