Ginger Snaps, both the movie and the cookie, are underrated.
If you've never seen the movies, they're a female-lead, body-horror, werewolf trilogy from the early 2000's. If that sentence alone doesn't excite you, here is a very brief synopsis: Ginger and Bridgette are teenage sisters who have a morbid sensibility, making them social outcasts at school, but they don't really care because they have each other. One night, while out, Ginger experiences her first period, a milestone she has been dreading, and the blood attracts a werewolf. Though Ginger survives, Bridgette notices her sister behaves a bit differently after the attack, is it just puberty? Or something more sinister?
I've seen all three, but the first one is the strongest in the series. (Although 2 isn't that bad.)
As for the cookies, they're a classic that has been around for ages, but, with more popular (and heavily advertised) competition like: Oreo, Chips Ahoy, Keebler, and Pepperidge Farms...Ginger Snaps are going to be the last one picked for the kickball team. They have staying power because they're a classic, they're well executed, and there's no one else out there quite like them. In fact, we even get seasonal variations now!
I decided to pick them up and give them a try to see if the old-school Snap is still my favorite, or if one of these variants can steal my heart away. Will it be like the movies where the OG is the best of the bunch? We shall see.

Hurts, Don't-it? - Strawberry Frosted Donut Oreos
Strawberry Frosted Donut Oreos - GiftAnother Oreo I was going to skip, because I was pretty sure this was more gimmick than anything else, but a friend bought these and demanded I try them, so here we are. Was my assumption correct? Or will these blow my mind?

Blueberry Lemon and Strawberry Shortcake Toll House Cookies
I don't buy grocery store cookies very often, because I'm a cookie snob.
As you can tell by this blog...I eat a lot of pre-made junk food, but I also like cooking and baking. If you follow me on Instagram, you see a lot of the stuff that I cook in my kitchen that isn't quite blog-worthy, but I take a lot of pride in making my baked goods from scratch in my own kitchen. So when it comes to things like pre-made cookies you just break apart and bake, I critique things really harshly because nothing tastes as good as real cookies baked from scratch at home, but, there are some exceptions...

Chocolate Meringue & Almond Creme Cookies - Aldi
Three Aldi reviews in a row? Repetitive, I know, but I'm about to buy a house, so the food blog budget is tight! I swear I have something non-Aldi lined up next, but be prepared to see a lot more budget food in the following months as I hopefully finish the home buying process and get settled.
Winter is right around the corner here in New Jersey, and that means it's cookie season!
I just wrapped up my 6th annual cookie swap, and even through my kitchen is filled to the brim with homemade cookies, I just couldn't resist some fancy Specially Selected seasonal offerings.

Limited Edition Chocolate Banana Chips Ahoy (TBT post)
Chocolate Banana Chips Ahoy - (I honestly forgot where I got these...)
It's not Thursday anymore, but this is a throwback post anyway. These cookies came out...I don't even know how long ago exactly, but it's been a few months. I love all things banana, so even though I've never been a huge Chips Ahoy fan, I still had to give these a try. (Any hey, those Hot Cocoa ones were pretty darn good. Maybe these will be great too?)

Trader Joe-Joe's (Ginger) - Trader Joe's: Marlton, NJ
Trader Joe-Joe's (Ginger) - Trader Joe's: Marlton, NJ
Happy New Year's Eve everyone! I'll be posting a few things later tonight when I get home from work, including this year's foodie collage, so I hope you all have a fun night and stay safe! (Those of you who areshut-insantisocialhomebody's like me, can look forward to some fun foodie posts to ring in the new year.)
I mentioned buying these Joe-Joe's during our last Candyology101 podcast, and Cybele from Candyblog warned me that they were going to be VERY decadent and coated in chocolate, and boy, was she right.
