Ritter Sport Strawberry - Target, NJ
This was the last candy bar I tried and the one I was the most worried about. Strawberry flavored things are very tricky, they are sometimes amazing and refreshing… and other times horrible and chemical.
The packaging is the same as the Marzipan and Espresso bars (here and here), and these packages are awesome. No muss, no fuss.
This time it is milk chocolate, which is always ab it of a red-flag for me. The super sweetness of milk chocolate is often paired with the chemically strawberry flavor. The richer flavors are almost always paired with dark chocolate… so I was worried I was about to eat something foul.
The smell did not settle any of those fears. It smells chemical and perfume-y… nothing at all like a real strawberry. That was a bit of a let down. I was hoping I’d be wow’d with a deep fruity aroma.
Down the hatch! I was surprised by how tart the filling was, it was very pleasant and offset the ultra-sweet chocolate coating a bit. Sadly, that was the only pleasant surprise. The taste was perfume-y and very fake. Then the after taste was sour and very off putting. Yuck. I don’t think I’ll be purchasing this ever again. If you like strawberry Nesquick, you might enjoy this. I hate all that ultra-fake Strawberry stuff. So this is a no-go for me.
