Chuao Chocolatier, Honeycomb - Target : Moorestown, NJ
Unlike the last chocolate bar I reviewed, I’ve had this brand before.
The wrapper design is almost exactly the same as the last flavor I reviewed, simple and clean. The only difference between the two flavors is the imagery. Instead of a bowl of potato chips, this time it’s a slab of honeycomb that is drizzled with chocolate. (The little bee flying by is a nice touch too! I love bees.)
Unwrapped, the bar smells bitter like coco powder. (Just like most dark chocolates do.) I can’t smell any hint of honey, but there is more of a sweetness to this scent than with any other traditional dark chocolate.
Sprinkled through out the bar are tiny little, amber colored, crystallized bits of honey. (You can see them in photo #3.) It’s a little tricky to taste the honey flavoring because the dark chocolate really overpowered it. There are some sweet notes that remind me of the processed honey you can buy in little plastic bears, but that is not my idea of honey or honeycomb. It was near impossible to taste these little bits on their own, they were just too tiny and delicate, and they melt in your mouth along with the chocolate.
The chocolate quality was nice, but there wasn’t enough honey or honeycomb flavoring for me. (Then again I am spoiled and only buy and use raw honey which tastes totally different.) I liked the potato chip bar a lot more than this flavor. In the future I’ll pass on this honeycomb variation.
