Sriracha Lime Popcorn - Aldi

Clancy's Sriracha Lime Popcorn - Aldi
My updates have been really sporadic lately, and I don't like it. The main reason behind the lack of posts is that I'm having an incredibly hard time writing anything these days. I just can't seem to focus! Taking and editing food photos is super easy, I can do it with my eyes closed (not really), but when it comes to sitting down and sharing my thoughts in (semi-coherent) sentences...it's like pulling teeth!

I have tons of photos edited and ready to go, and plenty of new food products lined up in my queue, but when it comes to sitting down and actually writing everything out....I just can't seem to get it done! In an effort to try and force my way through this writing dilemma, I decided to breifly review something I've been munching on all week, this Sriracha Lime popcorn from Aldi.

As far as the packaging is concerned, Aldi is really stepping up their game! This bag has a matte finish, a lovely bold (but not obnoxious) maroon-ish-red coloring, and the scattered popcorn pieces create visual interest while guiding your eye around the entire package. Overall, this looks really awesome and it photographed beautifully! If you take you hand and cover up the Clancy's logo, which looks really cheap and rushed, the design could even pass as a high end grocery store brand. I love it! (But I'm a sucker for matte packages. I think they always make products look more expensive.)
Once opened, the orange-tinged popcorn inside immediately smells like concentrated lime juice, which I like, mixed with a tomato-based hot sauce. The aroma doesn't specifically remind me of sriracha, but it does remind me of my favorite instant ramen brand.

This stuff is seriously addicting! I can taste lime juice, salt, and the hot sauce-portion really tastes like authentic sriracha. (It's not normal hot sauce being called sriracha because it's trendy.) The spices taste sweet, a little garlic-y, and the more you eat, the more it burns. The spice level never gets too extreme, this is about on-par with Hot Fries and other spicy snack foods, but what I really love about this product is the heat being mixed with the sweet but tangy lime juice. That's what keeps me coming back for more.

I love spicy and sweet snack-foods, so this is perfect for me! Not only is it delicious, but it's (fairly) good for you too. I normally don't pay attention to calories or dieting or any of that stuff, but three cups of this popcorn is only 150 calories! Three cups? That's pretty awesome. Suck it all you unsatisfying 100 calorie snack packs! For 150 calories I can satisfy my craving so spicy, sweet and salty all at once.

These bags weren't flying off the shelves at my local Aldi, so (sadly) they're already on the clearance racks. I already went through one bag of this stuff at work, so I grabbed a second bag as a back-up. If it doesn't come back in the future, I'm going to be really sad. If any of you like Hot Fries, or other sweet and spicy snack foods, I highly recommend grabbing a bag of this stuff. You get a lot for your money (especially since it's so cheap on clearance) and I find it to be incredibly satisfying.
