These have been out for a while, and I couldn't really avoid the spoilers. General consensus among foodies and food-reviewers, these are not great. Why buy them anyway? I don't have a concrete answer for that. I guess it's like when someone tries something gross, like those Bertie Bott's Every Flavor jelly beans, and then you see their reaction. You know it's bad, and it's going to be bad, but you just have to try it for yourself. Or is that just me?
These were only a dollar, and it's a small amount, so if they're destined for the garbage, I won't feel too bad about it. Plus, you never know, I might end up being in the minorty and really enjoying these. It's worth a shot, right?
Once opened, these are the same color as all the other classic m&m line, but they're a bit misshapen. Some more than others.
I popped a few in my mouth, and I enjoyed the soft crunch that comes from the candy shell and such a soft peanut-butter-like filling, but the flavoring wasn't great. The filling seems to be hazelnut butter, not a chocolate spread with hazelnut filling. So this has a slightly health-foody taste to it that I do not appreciate.
Chocolate and hazelnut are an amazing combination we all know and love, I mean look at Nutella and Ferrero Rocher, but m&m's just didn't hit the mark with this one. Speaking of Ferrero, they also produce Nutella, and in recent years we're had a chocolate hazelnut spread themed Oreo and these m&m's, which are obviously trying to be Nutella, but fail miserably. Is Ferrero just unwilling to collab with other brands? If that's the case, just branch out and make these products yourself!
Official Nutella cookies and candies? Yes, please! These wanna be m&m's? Not so much. I can safely say I won't be re-buying these, and from the sounds of it, a lot of other people won't either. Maybe Hazelnut Spread m&m's days are numbered...
