Rice Dream, Rice Nog - Wegman’s: Cherry Hill, NJ
Since it’s still the winter season, I can still find eggnog
at every store. I wanted to try a little something different, so I
picked up a carton of this Rice Nog.
The container is just like the soy chocolate peppermint stick beverage I drank a few months ago (which was delicious).
this carton is made of waxy paper with a plastic pour spout. I actually
like the design, which is bold and festive. Being able to pull off a
red, white, and blue color scheme without looking patriotic is pretty
impressive.
Inside, this beverage smells like rice pudding and oatmeal.
This scent really reminds me of cinnamon and spice instant oatmeal
packets, which isn’t off-putting, but it wasn’t what I was expecting. As
I poured it into the glass I noticed it is kind of translucent and a
beige-y pink color.
I was surprised by the taste, I was expecting a similar
spiced flavor to eggnog, but this is just like drinking oatmeal in the
morning. There is a mild rice flavor, similar to rice pudding, mixed
with cinnamon and vanilla. I was hoping to taste some nutmeg or cloves,
but there were no other spices that stood out. The beverage is very thin
and watery, but it does taste plesant.
I wouldn’t say this is a great substitute for eggnog, but if
you enjoy rice pudding and oatmeal I think you’d enjoy it. I did, but I
wouldn’t buy another carton. (I’ll stick to the chocolate peppermint stink soy beverage.)
