Banpeiyu Da Mon Puccho - Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ

Banpeiyu Da Mon Puccho - Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ
Here is another flavor of Puccho candy! The label didn’t have much English, so I assumed that this flavor was yuzu after looking at the label, but this is actually banpeiyu flavored. What is banpeiyu? (I had to look it up.)

"…banpeiyu fruits are citrus fruits that bear a resemblance to hugely oversized grapefruits.”

All of the flavors I have reviewed so far have stuck to the classic Puccho mascot or AKB48 members, but this specific flavor is a little different from the others. This package features a big black bear character. The front of the packaging features the fruit itself and bear mascot, but overall it’s very basic. I love the bold contrast of the yellow and black with red accents.

Inside, the Puccho mascot is scattered all over the candy wrapper like usual, and this time I got a little nerdy professor!

The candy itself is an opaque lemon-y yellow color with translucent yellow gummy gems. This does have a scent, but it’s oddly peppery (like the seasoning), but I think it is just the wrapping. I can’t imagine the candy itself having a pepper flavor.
I have never had banpeiyu, so I can’t say the flavor is accurate, but this candy is delicious. It tastes like a mixture of grapefruit and mandarin oranges. The perfect, refreshing, flavor for summer.

If you see it around, give it a try!
