Doraemon Takekoputa Ramune - Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ

Doraemon Takekoputa Ramune
- Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ
This might be more of a toy than a candy….
It’s Doraemon! Some of you might have recognized the character on this packaging right away, he is very popular. (Check out an episode here.)

The packaging is colorful and busy, pretty typical for most of the candies I find in the Asian Food Market’s snack aisle. It’s design features characters from the show and images of the included toy. Although there is a lot going on, and a lot of characters, I don’t feel like the packaging is overly busy. (Most likely because some of the figures are so large.) The plastic packaging is very long and thin, so it fits easily in hand, and it only contains two pieces of whistle candy.

The candy itself is very simple, and it looks really similar to a peppermint Lifesaver. These smells a bit like the bubblegum-y ramune candies I hate, which is a bit of a let down for me.

Why are they called “whistle candy?” Well, when you have it in your mouth you can suck or blow air through the hole (Giggity)  in the center to make a surprisingly LOUD whistle noise. (You can sometimes do this with Lifesavers too.)

The label on the back says that these candies are supposed to be sour, but they just tasted like normal ramune flavor to me. They had that bubblegum-y taste with a hint of citrus.
A written review doesn’t do the toy or the whistle sound justice, so I am going to try and film a little video tomorrow. I wish I had a DSLR that does HD film, but I don’t. So for now we’ll make due with my old camera or webcam.
See you all tomorrow!
