Carbonated Matcha Soda?

Matcha Ramune - Rocket Fizz
We went to brunch the other day (which is the preppiest white-girl thing I have probably ever typed), and right next-door to our hipster brunch-oasis was a Rocket Fizz. In case you don't have them in your area, Rocket Fizz is a quirky candy and novelty product franchise that has all kinds of sodas, sweets, and squirrel underpants? Yeah, it's like the Spencer's gifts of snacks. All those crazy Chicken Wing flavored sodas and stuff you'd seen the guys on Wreckless Eating and Cult Moo drink? (Which are two of my favorite Youtube-foodie channels.) They've got it!
I wasn't too adventurous with my selections, so if you want to see some gross sodas, check out these videos, but I did pick up this matcha ramune. I've had tons of match flavored sweets over the years, but I've never had a matcha soda. This could be interesting...

Meiji Poifull Drink Mix - Asian Food Market

Meiji Poifull Drink Mix - Asian Food Market
Poifull may look like jelly beans, but the texture is completely different! The outside is sugary and kind of crumbly, similar to Jelly Belly style beans, but the inside is chewy, bouncy and soft. It's almost like a panned gummy, and it's absolutely delightful! Unlike a lot of American jelly beans, these are also flavored inside and out! The cores are each a different color to match their sugary exterior. For this mix in particular we have four soda-themed flavors, and I'm super excited to give these a try!

Super Lemon in Ramune Form? (YouTube Video Review)

Time to sip some sour soda!
In this video I show you how to open a marble-style ramune bottle, and we see if this sour ramune is bold enough to warrant it's "Super" status.

I prerecorded a few videos, so there will be a new video posted every week on my YouTube channel! Be sure to check it out!

Flaming Moe Novelty Energy Drink - Five Below (TBT)

Flaming Moe Novelty Energy Drink - Five Below
"Call Mr. Plow, that's my name, that name again is Mr. Plow!" Wrong episode, I know, but with all the snow we've been getting that little jingle has been stuck in my head all week! What better time to get that reference out of my head than when I'm reviewing a Simpsons-themed novelty drink?

Gum Variety Pack (ramune) - SunSeung Market: Pennsauken, NJ

Gum Variety Pack (ramune) - SunSeung Market: Pennsauken, NJ
Annnd we're back! Blogger was acting really odd yesterday and kept giving me errors, so I decided to unplug and go out into the real world for a bit. I've become a bit of a hermit these days, so it was nice to get out even if it was just to run some errands. I ended up going to Target, so tomorrow I'll be posting some photos of what I saw while I was there (I always submit these to The Impulsive Buy, but a lot of the things I spot never make it in).
Okay, we're almost done with this variety pack. So far I have reviewed three different flavors, more than halfway done, and I have to say this candy is pretty mediocre. I've had much better, and I've had much worse.  There are two flavors left, so my opinion might change, but right now I think most of you can pass this one by if you see it on the shelves. With things as they are, I wouldn't buy this again.
Check out THIS post to read about the overall packaging.
So far I have seen a pirate-styled monkey, a cute little bunny, and a panda bear, all with a generic design that is reminiscent of Hello Kitty. What's left? A cat of course. This kitty totally looks like a design you would find at a dollar store, but it is pretty cute, and it looks kind of genderless. Other than a bow and skirt on the panda bear there aren't too many gender-specific designs. Which is pretty interesting. (I think the bunny is meant to be a girl as well, but I like that there are no obvious cartoon-y feminine traits like eye lashes.)

Kabaya Karipori Candy Stick - Ramune Review - SunSeng Market : Pennsauken, NJ

Kabaya Karipori Candy Stick - Ramune Review
- SunSengMarket : Pennsauken, NJ
Sorry for the brief hiatus. Things are finally starting to settle down a bit and I can get back to my regular update schedule. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding.

I already discussed the packaging and the cola flavored candy. (Posted HERE!)

So today we’ll focus on the ramune candy and it’s wrappers.

Pokemon Candies (Possibly Gum) -??? : Chinatown, Philadelphia, PA

Pokemon Candies (Possibly Gum) -??? : Chinatown, Philadelphia, PA
Check out more Pokemon photos in yesterday’s post!
Time to discuss some packaging, and (prepare to be shocked) this is another item where I have absolutely no complaints or suggestions for the design! This is aimed at kids, so it’s bright and colorful, and I feel like this packaging was very well thought out. The stickers are a nice touch, which can make this a collectable item (much like the entire Pokemon franchise) or you can just enjoy the candy. There were different character strips and stickers available in the store, personally I chose this one because of Pikachu and Pidove.
This is adorable, fun to photograph, and functional. I wouldn’t change a thing about it.

Crayon Shin-chan Ramune - SunSeng Market : Pennsauken, NJ

Crayon Shin-chan Ramune - SunSeng Market : Pennsauken, NJ
To be a ramune you must have marbles, marbles and a bottle~!
Okay, enough of me being lame. Crayon Shin-chan is a hilarious Japanese character who has his own manga, anime, and plenty of merchandise. His show was actually dubbed in English and it aired on [adult swim] here in America. I loved the show, so hopefully I’ll love this ramune drink.
This glass bottle is typical for ramune beverages, and it’s a nice pale blue color. The label features Shin with his family, but there and tons of little Shin-chans in animal outfits scattered about. (The flying squirrel outfit and chicken outfit are my favorites.) There are a lot of characters, so this is a pretty busy label, but as a fan of the show I love it.

Doraemon Takekoputa Ramune - Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ

Doraemon Takekoputa Ramune
- Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ
This might be more of a toy than a candy….
It’s Doraemon! Some of you might have recognized the character on this packaging right away, he is very popular. (Check out an episode here.)

The packaging is colorful and busy, pretty typical for most of the candies I find in the Asian Food Market’s snack aisle. It’s design features characters from the show and images of the included toy. Although there is a lot going on, and a lot of characters, I don’t feel like the packaging is overly busy. (Most likely because some of the figures are so large.) The plastic packaging is very long and thin, so it fits easily in hand, and it only contains two pieces of whistle candy.

Lion Soda Kids Candy - Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ

Lion Soda Kids Candy - Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ
Because this candy has 6 flavors, and such amazing packaging, I am splitting it up into multiple reviews.
Check out THIS POST on the aesthetics.
Today I’ll review 3 flavors of this soda candy:
  • Melon (green)
  • Ramune (blue)
  • Grape (red-violet)

This review will focus on the aesthetics.
You’re not supposed to judge a book by it’s cover, but sometimes I buy things just because of the packaging.  When I saw this on the shelf, I just had to photograph it. There is so much going on! There are colorful flavor-sentai, bold text, and bright foiled backgrounds. I love all of the colors! Although the design is very busy, I would love to have this blown up as a pop-art piece.

Strawberry Ramune - Sweet Sugary Nectar of the Gods

Strawberry Ramune
Another treat from the Subaru Sakura Festival. Strawberry Ramune! I love this stuff, although it is so insanely sweet! (I collect the marbles from inside the bottles too!)
