I bought this drink because it received favorable reviews from my favorite foodie Youtubers,
EmmyMadeinJapan and
CultMoo.
(To be fair, CultMoo said it wasn't really good, but not truly bad either. Not a really favorable review, but they seemed interested in it.)
Right
off the bat I have to say that I hate this packaging.
The label uses
visually appealing complimentary colors and the images aren't bad, but
that text is awful. It looks like a default font, but the major negative
was the pull-tab style cap. It's interesting and it looks convenient,
but it would NOT open. The pull was made of really thin metal which cut
into my fingers as I tried to peel it back. I yanked on it until it
broke and then I had to get pliers to finish the job. As if that wasn't
enough, this bottle isn't resealable. Maybe I got a busted cap, there
was a scratch on the silver foil, but I can't imagine that would hinder
the opening process. Unless this stuff is insanely yummy, the packaging
alone is enough to make me never want to buy this again.
After
I got this thing open I could smell this sweet, nutty aroma. In
EmmymadeinJapan's video she mentions that this smells like pandan, and
it does. Pandan comes from the pandanus amaryllifolius plant. The leaves are ground into a paste and mixed with sweeteners and a bit of green colorant. I have some pandan paste in my cabinet,
I used it to make the green tunic for my pixel Link cake, and it has a similar nutty aroma.
I
like the smell, but I absolutely hate the taste. This drink is a
mixture of banana runts, pandan, and artificial honey. The best part of
this drink was actually the little basil seeds. They had a similar
texture to tapioca pudding which was really pleasant and it was like
drinking a mini boba.
