Grilled Doughnut Chips - A Pop Sugar Foods Recipe Review

Grilled Doughnut Chips - A Pop Sugar Foods Recipe Review

That's right, doughnut chips. Obviously, this is NOT a diet food, but it's not as bad for you as you might think.

A glazed doughnut from Krispy Kreme is only 190 Calories, and this recipe requires it to be sliced in half. I'm not calorie counter, or an expert, so I don't know how many additional calories will be added with the light dusting of sugar, but one chip can't be THAT bad for you. (Can it?)
To make these doughnut chips all you do is cut a glazed doughnut in half, dip the cake side in sugar, and put them on your George Foreman grill. That isn't really baking, or a recipe, but it was grilled doughnuts! (Krispy Kreme ones at that!) How could I not give it a try?

Like I've said before, this isn't really a recipe, and all you do is grill a pre-made glazed doughnut, which is insanely simple, but the results are insanely delicious.

The granulated sugar and doughnut glaze caramelize from the heat, creating a delicious burnt sugar flavor similar to the crust of crème brûlée, while the doughnut gets crunchy out the outside but stays soft and chewy on the side. It's like a deliciously chewy toffee cookie, and it's best when it's still a bit warm.

My George foreman couldn't press my chips as thinly as the ones shown in the Pop Sugar video, but they were still amazing. If you want to try something a little different with your morning coffee, or build the breakfast version of a Luther, give these a try!

  1. Never penetrate nourishment on a BBQ or the juices will run out and it will dry out rapidly:
