Candy Coated Pretzel Eggs - Easter Gift

Candy Coated Pretzel Eggs - Easter Gift
Another item from my Easter Basket Haul. I've never seen this product before, have any of you? I think these are just white chocolate coated pretzel nuggets, so as far as snack items go, this is pretty generic. This brand of snack foods makes some really awesome potato chips, but I don't recall them making too many sweets. (Other than these new sweet potato chips.)

To be honest, I'm not too sure about this one...

Let's start with the packaging. If you're familiar with Herr's products, their designs tend to fluctuate depending on the product. Their normal line of chips has kept the same color-coded packaging that has been around since the early 90's, and they got a bit fancy with their kettle style chips (which I love), but this is the first time I've seen a seasonal product from them and I am not liking what I see.

Herr's went pastel crazy on this tiny bag. There is just way too much going on. As an adult, I think all of this looks busy, and a bit cheap, but I bet children would really enjoy it. As far as seasonal designs go, I really like the color combination that they attempted to work with, but it just doesn't work for me. I wouldn't say this is terrible, afterall I have seen much worse in the seasonal aisle, but a bit of editing would make this design a lot more palatable.

Inside, the little "candy coated" pretzels were exactly what I had expected. They are tiny little pretzel nuggets coated in a waxy white chocolate-like coating and they smelled a bit like malted milk balls. (Which I love!)  Due to their matte finish they photographed really well and I loved the colors, but I wouldn't say these were "eggs."

I attempted to try and candy coating on it's own first, so I sucked on one of the eggs for a bit (eww)...and the outside took a while to break down. This stuff is pretty waxy, but when it does finally start to melt it has a generic candy-melts taste to it. I really didn't care for it at all.

Sadly, the pretzels underneath are really good! After I got all of that "candy shell" off I was left with a deliciously crispy pretzel nugget. I found the pretzel part of this snack really yummy and addicting, but that coating was pretty awful. As far as seasonal items go, I really didn't enjoy this one, but that was just because of the novelty "candy" coating. It was way too waxy and artificial for my liking, but I really liked the tiny pretzel nuggets. I wish Herr's would sell a bag of non-coated pretzel eggs, I would buy that in an instant.

If you see this one in the clearance aisle, I'd pass it by.
