Cheeseburger & Fries - Smash Burger
Cheeseburger & Fries -
Smash Burger
New burger chains have been popping up all over my area. There's Wayback Burger, Bobby's Burger Palace, and now...Smash Burger.
Somehow my mother got some coupons for Smash Burger, I'm guessing some kind of promo since they are new in the area, so she picked a little something up for me to review. (Thanks mom!)
I got a basic cheeseburger and some fires that were seasoned with herbs.
The burger smelled delicious, but there was nothing necessarily special about it, the aroma was that of a typical cheeseburger. (Which is yummy, especially after a long day at work, it just doesn't seem any different from cheeseburgers I have had before.)
The bun appears to be potato based (I love potato buns), and the burger patty was pretty hefty. I looked up the menu online and the pricing seems to be similar to other specialty Burger shops like Five Guys and The Pop Shop.
I took a bite, and it was a step up from Wendy's, but it wasn't enough to make me seek out a Smashburger over other burger-shop alternatives. The bun was soft and lightly toasted, the veggies were fresh, the cheese was nice and melted, but the overall taste wasn't drastically better or different from burgers I have reviewed in the past.
Don't think this review is in any way unfavorable, I happily ate the entire thing, but it just wasn't different enough to set Smash Burger apart from other burger shops in my area. We are pretty saturated with diners and burger joints here in South Jersey, so if you want to make everyone come to your establishment over everything else, you need to have something drastically different from the competition, and this just wasn't it.
As for the fries, I don't think I can give them a 100% honest review because they had gotten pretty soggy by the time they got to me. (I didn't get these fries until several hours after they were purchased due to working late.)
They were soggy, and covered in some kind of interesting herb blend, which is definitely different from the other burger shop fries I have had, but they just weren't at their prime.
I wasn't a fan of these fries while soggy, but I would like to try them again in the future. (Fresh ones of course.)
Overall, these items from Smashburger were filling and satisfying, but I just didn't feel like their food was any different from Five Guys or other diner-style burgers.
