Sometimes Foodie eats Taco Bell for the first time in 10+ years

Breakfast- Taco Bell: Somerville, NJ
Like the title suggests, I haven't had Taco Bell since I was a child. Time to see what this breakfast stuff is all about!

Talking about why I stopped eating Taco Bell is a little gross and silly. I'm certainly not against (occasional) fast food, but when I was a kid there was something in my Taco Bell brand salsa that didn't belong there. It was a really long time ago, and the company responded to the situation and analyzed the foreign object way back when, so everything turned out fine. Before anyone jumps to conclusions, my family didn't sue or request any money or do anything ridiculous like that, we just wanted to know what it was and the company gave us answers and a coupon to replace my food. I was perfectly fine, healthy, and unharmed, but it did put me off from eating anything Taco Bell ever since.

All of that happened when I was a little girl in elementary school, but I'm 27 now, and my boyfriend loves this place, so it's time to suck it up and try this restaurant chain again. (Gotta put on my big girl pants.)

My boyfriend really wanted to check out the new breakfast menu, so I thought it would be nice if I took him there before he left on his long trip. (He comes back this week!)

We drove to the nearest Taco Bell and ordered the new A.M. sausage Crunchwrap meal and a Mountain Dew Kickstart Black Cherry Freeze. The meal came with a coffee and two Cinnabon Delights, and it seemed like a decent amount of food for the price. (Although I am sure this isn't a breakfast nutritionists and doctors would approve of.)

I started with the Black Cherry Freeze. (The coffee was for my caffeinated boyfriend.) The frozen fruity slush was definitely artificially flavored, there's no way this is real cherry, but it wasn't overly sweet. The cherry flavoring had a nice amount of tanginess that became quite addicting. I rarely drink Mountain Dew, but I really liked this frozen drink. It's just a bit bolder and tarter than the average cherry flavored slushie, and I would definitely buy it again. (This would be great to sneak into the movies.)

Next up, the sausage Crunchwrap. Although I am more of a bacon kind of girl, my boyfriend prefers sausage (*snort*). This AM Crunchwrap comes folded and grilled just like the lunch/dinner varieties, but the fillings are typical breakfast food items. This one had sausage, cheddar cheese, a slab of hash-browns, scrambled eggs and a sausage patty.

This isn't a revolutionary new menu item, it's just like a breakfast burrito, but this Crunchwrap shape seems to be a little easier to eat. The ingredients weren't falling out of the back after a few bites, but the taste is something I can easily recreate at home. The website says that there was supposed to be some spicy jalapeno sauce, but I couldn't taste anything that seemed especially spicy.

So far the cherry freeze is a win, the Crunchwrap is yummy but nothing truly new, but what about the Cinnabon Delights?

These little spheres of fried dough are filled with Cinnabon icing and coated in cinnamon sugar. They look like little doughnut holes and they smell like funnel cake. (So far so good.)

It was love at first bite. The fried dough melts in your mouth with the gritty cinnamon sugar and the icing is warm and gooey. These are in no way good for you, but I don't care. I am so happy the meal only came with two, because I could have easily eaten two dozen of these things, if not more! Again, the flavoring isn't dramatically different from things you can cook up at home, it's just like a churro filled with Cinnabon icing, but I hate cleaning my deep fryer. These are dangerously delicious, I actually want to go back and get more of them!

All in all my trip to Taco Bell was really good. I plan on going back for breakfast again with my boyfriend in the future. The food isn't exactly healthy, and I like to sleep in on the weekends, so this won't become a regular thing, but a Taco Bell breakfast once and a while might become a celebratory treat. I'd say this breakfast stuff is worth checking out at least once, plus it might give you ideas on how to switch up your breakfast items at home.

  1. I just found this blog while searching for reviews for International Coffee's Hot for Cookie creamer and started browsing. I just wanted to tell you that I enjoy reading this along with my favorites and.... I have to know what you found in your salsa!

    1. I'm so glad you like my posts! I kinda didn't want to mention what it was in the post, since I didn't want to gross anyone out, but the short answer is that I found a dead bug in my salsa. I was a kid at the time, so my mother contacted Taco Bell about the matter, and they demanded proof, so the bug was sent away and checked out. We were told that it was an earwig, commonly called an pincher bug in my area, and Taco Bell offered us some coupons to replace the food.

It wasn't a huge deal, but I didn't eat Taco Bell again up until I made this post. These things happen, and I wasn't hurt, but as a little kid I was really grossed out.
