Minion Fartgun Candy - Five Below - Marlton, NJ

Minion Fartgun Candy - Five Below - Marlton, NJ
Over three years of food-related blogging has lead up to this very moment. That's right, today's the day, I'm about to review a fart candy. Is this the real life?

When this candy was announced I thought it was a terrible idea. I figured that it was just another novelty product to promote a movie, and I never thought I would actually buy it, but here we are.

So what sucked me into buying this little tin of chocolate fart-cloud candies?

I'm not as Minion-obsessed as the general public, so it wasn't the movie-tie-in, and compressed chocolate flavored tablets don't sound appetizing, so it's definitely not the candy either. So why buy a novelty item that I knew was going to taste bad? It was the embossing and the printing.I am a complete and utter sucker for good packaging, and this reeled me in hook, line, and sinker.

There are plenty of novelty-shaped tins in the candy aisles, but I feel like this one is really well done. It's bright and colorful, the rendering and print-quality looks like a screenshot from the movie, and the embossing adds dimension as well as texture. It photographed beautifully, and I freaking love it. I mean, each screen-like hole in that fart gun spout is indented! How cool is that?

Tins are nothing new, and this isn't a innovative product that will change the candy world, but as far as movie-tie-ins and novelty products, I feel like the packaging is really stepping up it's game, and I'm really happy to see these items having more attention to detail.

Enough rambling about packaging, on to the candy!

Inside the tin are beautifully shaped chocolate-flavored fart-clouds. That's right, fart-clouds. There's a classy little "PPFFTT!" embossed on every single one of them, and they smell like a mixture of Yoo-Hoo and Hershey's chocolate syrup. I wouldn't say the aroma is unappealing, it's above and beyond what I was expecting, but I still don't really want to eat them.

I tried biting one in-half, and there were these weird larger white chunks inside. I'm not really sure what that's about, but these actually don't taste that bad. At least they're not as bad as I thought they'd be.

These little fart-clouds have a texture that's similar to Sweet-Tarts, where the outside is a bit firm but the center is softer and crumblier, and they taste like powered hot cocoa mix, artificial sweeteners, and chocolate syrup from a squeeze-bottle. I don't know if I'll ever be able to eat all of these, but it's better than I had expected. This is another one of those candies that feels like a chore, or an obligation, but it's not spit-out-worthy.

As far as novelty collectables, I think this tin is a must-have for Minions fans. It makes a great display item, and it's very affordable, but as far as candies go, this is very forgettable. It's not bad enough to be fun, and it's not good enough to make you enjoy eating it. It's kind of in this weird limbo-like category of it's own, and I can't see anyone missing these once they're gone.

  1. The tin doesn't make any sounds? Just for decoration?

    1. Nope, no sounds, but it'd be amazing if it did!
