Pumpkin Pie Almonds - Target

Double Crunch Pumpkin Pie Almonds - Target
'Tis the season to be BASIC, fa la la la la...Well, not really.
Basic weather has come and gone, and Christmas is literally this weekend, but I am way behind on my food blogging, so we're going to dive into some overdue pumpkin spice reviews on today's #TBT.
Here we have a huge blocky logo at the top of a plastic, resealable, bag and everything else is lost in a sea of creamy pumpkin-orange. Brach's packaging always looks clunky and a bit awkward to me, but they are easily recognizable, and the bright orange bag acts like a beacon beckoning basics. (It got me, didn't it?) It might not be my cup of graphic design tea, but it catches your eye and keeps the food safe.
Once opened, I can see that the almonds inside are a beautiful pumpkin-orange, and they smell like pumpkin spiced buttercream frosting.
They weren't kidding about that double-layer business. These things are BULKY. We have a thick sugary shell, similar to Jordan almonds, then some kind of white chocolate confectionary layer, and underneath all that sugar is a perfect little almond.
I'm a cruncher by nature, so I popped a few in my mouth and immediately got to crunchin'.
Due to their white confectionary layer, these have a softer crunch than the Jordan almonds I'm used to, and they definitely don't make me think of pumpkin pie, but they do make me think of pumpkin spiced doughnuts, and that's something! The shell is sugary sweet and crunchy, followed by a creamy even sweeter melty confectionary layer with a moderate amount of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove flavoring, and then the almond center helps round things out. Overall, these are pretty yummy!
When you snack on these one after the other the sweetness can be a bit cloying, that tiny almond isn't enough to offset all that sugar, but they do pair really nicely with unsweetened tea or coffee.
I wouldn't buy them again for personal snacking, but I would repurchase them to add to my holiday dessert table. Plus, can you image how cute these would be as favors for a fall/pumpkin spice wedding or event?! Adorable.
