Ice SCREAM Pumpkin Delights

Little Debbie has branched out into ice cream. Turning classics, like Cosmic Brownies and Oatmeal Creme Pies into scoop-able desserts.

After the Fruity Pebbles ice cream left me feeling is was more of a gimmick than it was edible, I figured these would likely be the same and skipped them. Until I saw that the seasonal sweet, Pumpkin Delights, were getting the ice cream treatment.

Pumpkin Delights look...rather unfortunate. I reviewed them back in 2015 and I stand by my comparison that they looks just like the Koopas from the live action Mario Bros movie.

Twinning.

They may look bizarre, but they are absolutely delicious. If the ice cream is even half as good, I'll consider this a win.

Oddly enough, I don't see a description on the pint as to what is going on inside. It's Pumpkin Delights themed, but what does that mean? Vanilla ice cream with cookie bits? Pumpkin ice cream? Ginger?

I opened it up and it's a creamy orange color, so I am guessing, pumpkin or pumpkin pie base. After a bit of digging I can see chunks of cookie bits (few and far between) and some translucent orange swirls that look like the "smile"-filling.

Turning to Google, which lead me to Walmart's website, it states that this is, "pumpkin ice cream with a spiced cookie swirl." That checks out visually, but how does it taste?

The base is a bit light, and foamy, in that whipped ice cream kind of way, but it's much more tolerable than the Pebbles version. At first it kind of tricks you into thinking it is thick, rich, and creamy, but it melts away quickly and into almost nothing. Not a bad thing, but it doesn't allow the pumpkin flavor to shine or even linger. It's pumpkin-y, but not very bright or intense. After years of pumpkin products, I actually like this quite a bit. It's sweet, it's subtle, and just a little bit seasonal.

The cookie bits are, sadly, scarce. But when you do find them, they add some crunch. Interesting, since the cookie it is based on is actually soft and chewy. The crunch is welcome though, and reminds me of ginger snaps. When you do find the mix-ins, they add a welcome dose of warm, fall, spices and that aforementioned crunch.

This pint really shines when you hit cookie-swirl-gold, but there just isn't enough of it. I like it well enough, but I'll stick to the cookies for my seasonal fix.

It's almost Halloween!

Practically drowning myself in Halloween treats, songs, and movies has been really healing. I've been actively posting again, making little countdown graphics here and there, and trying to get back into the swing of social media. All thanks to a little Halloween obsession magic, and copious amounts of junk food.

Sadly, I'll be working on actual Halloween, but I made it so we can shut down a bit early so I can race home and hand out sweets to trick or treaters. The holiday may be coming to an end, but it lives on inside my heart. And my year-round Halloween-decorated bathroom.
