Trash Night Trio

 TRASH NIGHT!

Another well intentioned week where I -meant- to review a lot of food products but never found the time to sit down and write everything up.

Tomorrow is trash night, and in a effort to clear out some junk I have lying around, here's a lighting round with some candid pics and my thoughts.

Barissimo Coffee Oatmeal Cookie Oat-based non-dairy creamer  (Aldi) - I originally bought this because I thought it would be a fun flavor for the people in my life that are dairy intolerant. I also liked that it leaned into it's oaty-ness by going with an appropriately themed cookie flavoring. That said, it DOES taste very much like an oatmeal cookie, with a nice blend of cinnamon spices, and a metric ton of sugar. While I really liked the overall flavor, the intense sweetness was too much for me. If they cut back on the sugar by 50%, I think this one would be a real winner. As-is, to get the level of oatmeal cookie flavoring I would like, I also need to drink the coffee equivalent of hummingbird nectar. If you like you drinks hella sweet, and like oatmeal cookies, definitely give this a try.

Land O' Lakes Flavored Spreads - I actually had three different flavors, but only two are pictured. I had: Honey Butter, Pumpkin Pie Spice, and Everything.

I wasn't a fan of any of them. "Everything"-flavor was the worst of the bunch. It tasted like intense onion, popcorn butter, and yet it had an odd sweetness to it that just made it taste completely off to me. I attempted to use it once or twice, but was so disgusted, I threw it away ASAP. The other two were no where near as offensive.

Honey butter is sweet, lightly salted, and tastes more like processed or artificial honey than the real deal (I love honey and buy local all the time.) It was my favorite of the three, and when I brought it into work with homemade cinnamon raisin bread, my coworkers really liked it, but I think normal butter with a drizzle of honey tastes better and you're not saving enough in convenience to make the switch worth the loss of flavor.

Pumpkin Pie Spice - Is sweet, and spiced, definitely reminiscent of fall and it's namesake, but it's a rather bold flavor that I didn't find myself reaching for as much as I expected. I think it was more-so a problem of finding the right foods to go with it. Pumpkin themed waffles or pancakes? Sure! Blueberry muffin? No. This hung out in my fridge for a long time, because it's not a bad product, it delivers just what it promised, and I liked it well enough, but I just don't use it.

Personally, I wouldn't buy any of these again, but the sweeter offerings were vastly superior.

Pizza Party Potato Chips (Trader Joe's) - I have an affinity for pizza flavored snacks, so even though I couldn't find this on "What's Good at Trader Joe's", I decided to give it a shot. Trader Joe's can have some great stuff, like their vegan butter is the best tasting butter alternative I've tried for any allergy-friendly baking for friends and family, but these chips are a pretty big letdown. They have a lovely kettle-crunch, but lack flavor. It's like they were in the same bag as pepperoni, got some oil on them, and that's it. A very underwhelming pizza party. I ate several chips trying to figure out if all of them were the same flavor, or if there were pepperoni chips, pizza sauce chips, etc. and I couldn't definitely figure it out. If they did have different flavors, they weren't distinct enough, or maybe I got a bum bag of all pepperoni, but these were a pretty big letdown for me. Definitely won't buy again.

  1. Thanks for checking out the pizza chips so we don't have to haha! There were some Pizza Pillows from Trader Joe's earlier this year that were disappointing as well.

Those butter spreads sound gross, too. "Trash night" indeed.
