V-8 V-Fusion Veggie & Fruit Light - Aldi : Cherry Hill, NJ

V-8 V-Fusion Veggie & Fruit Light - Aldi : Cherry Hill,  NJ
I have been curious about V-8’s fruity products, but I wasn’t interested enough to make a trip to the grocery store just to buy them. I was at Aldi picking up some grocery staples when, as fate would have it, this was on display as a “special buy.” Name brand products pop up at Aldi from time to time, but once they do they never show up again. That is the downside of Aldi. Special buys are indeed special. (Like a unicorn.)  It was right there in front of me, and reasonably priced, so I bought a bottle.

There were two flavors available, but I opted for the strawberry banana. I’ve been on a banana bender lately.

The bottle is clear plastic with a shrink wrapped design. (Which is pretty common for juice products these days. They love this shrink wrap stuff.) The label features a two toned design with yellow and red backgrounds, mimicking the fruity flavor combination, and some bold white text. There are some simplified fruit and veggie vectors on the yellow background, but the red side is kept relatively clean. I think this design is pretty successful, but the font choices are a little iffy. Does all the white text really need a stroke and a drop shadow?

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I opened the cap. Would this smell like a banana smoothie?

Not really.

This smells very similar to strawberry flavored applesauce. Very sweet and fruity. There is a hint of banana, but apple is the star of the scent show.

When poured, the juice is a lovely rose color and it’s opaque. There are some floaty bits, but this is a fruit and veggie drink, I pretty much expected that.

I am happy to report that this juice is pretty darn tasty. I can taste apples, strawberries, carrots, and a tiny hint of banana. (Maybe some pear?)

The overall flavor is more fruit punch than smoothie, but if you blended this up with some ice I could see this being a really refreshing after-workout treat. If I saw this at Aldi I’d buy it again, but I don’t think I’ll be grabbing it at the regular grocery store. It’s yummy but I rather blend my own juices and smoothies.

Like me on facebook to keep up with all my adventures!

  1. The V-8 Fusions are quite tasty and I get them sometimes when they are on sale. But you get twice the actual juice for the same price in the non-light versions, and can dilute with water to get the calorie counts to match if desired. Any juice can be diluted this way and is often tastier as a result. Fruity or spicy (root beer type) sodas also can be diluted and often that brings out the taste. Even 4:1 or 5:1 water:soda can work nicely, but I would start with 1:1 and experiment up or down.
