Market Pantry Pumpkin Cereal Bars - Target - Cherry Hill, NJ

Market Pantry Pumpkin Cereal Bars
- Target - Cherry Hill, NJ
I went to Target a few weeks ago to check out their Halloween home decor. (They usually have some awesome poison-themed items. Since they go along with the theme of my etsy shop and art account, I love having them around.) While I was there I decided to check out the seasonal goodies on the shelves.

This year Target's Market Pantry line released a bunch of pumpkin flavored items!
There's:
  • Pumpkin Cereal Bars
  • Pumpkin Cheesecake Sandwich Cookies
  • Pumpkin Spice Waffles
After I had such a good experience with the Kashi bars, I decided to give these Target ones a try. (Although I am comparing the two, they aren't quite the same. This is a cereal bar while Kashi was a granola bar.)

The box is really plain and boring, but it is a store brand, so that is to be expected. There really isn't much to say about the packaging, other than it was very functional and easy to open.

Inside, the box is filled with individually wrapped bars. (With the same boring design.) When compared to the Kashi bars, these cereal bars were a bit smaller, but I did get more packages. (Kashi had 6 packs with 2 thin bars in each, while this one has 8 full bars.)
I opened one up, and it was surprisingly messy. That drizzle of icing (or is that white chocolate?) on top of the bar melted so it was all over the wrapper.  I decided to open another bar so I could get a decent photograph, and thankfully the next bar was perfect. I have to say, my first impression was that these bars are really soft and don't seem to hold up well. I can't imagine tossing these into a back pack or lunch box. They would get instantly smooshed and melted.

As far as the scent, I can smell nutmeg, allspice, and a little bit of cinnamon. The Market Pantry people might have been having an off day, because these smell just like carrot cake. Then again, pumpkin pie spice can be tricky. Since pumpkin flavoring is so mild you really need the right combination of spices.

I took a bite, and it actually tasted more like carrot cake than anything else. Which isn't bad, I really like carrot cake, but this is supposed to be pumpkin. What really sends it over the edge is that filling/topping. I think it is supposed to be cream cheese flavored, which makes more sense being paired with carrot cake than a pumpkin bar.

Is this yummy? Kind of, in that artificial Tastykake kind of way. This bar doesn't taste anything like pumpkin, but if you liked the carrot cake cookies from Pepperidge Farms, you'd really like these. I won't be buying these again. (If you're looking for a yummy pumpkin spice bar check out the Kashi ones. I really liked those a lot!)

On a Pumpkin Scale of 1-5 (5 being the most pumpkin-y) I’d give this a 0, but on overall deliciousness… I would give these a 2.
