Cucumber Watermelon Lemonade - Aldi: Cherry Hill, NJ

Cucumber Watermelon Lemonade - Aldi: Cherry Hill, NJ
I posted a photo of this on instagram the second I saw it. Watermelon cucumber lemonade? It sounds so fancy and refreshing, especially for Aldi. I popped it right into my cart, but then it hit me. Cucumber Melon? Where had I heard of that combination before...my high school Bath & Body Works obsession!
Like a lot of people in the late 90's and early 2000's, I was obsessed with the cucumber melon fragrance from Bath & Body Works. I once had a bottle of lotion explode in my gym bag and from that point on, no matter how many times I washed it, everything that ever entered that bag became infected with cucumber-melon-itis. I wore it so much I made myself sick, so I've avoided this fragrance ever since. Will this taste like I'm drinking a bottle of body spray?

The packaging for this is pretty standard as far as bottled juice is concerned. We've got a clear plastic bottle with a wrap-around label, it's nothing fancy as far as form and function, but the label is pretty well done for a no-frills branded item. I like the images of the fruit, and the color choices, plus the typefaces look as if there was actually effort put into them. It's not bad at all, I've seen a lot worse. I think Aldi did a great job with this one. I like it quite a bit, and if anyone saw this in your fridge, they might mistake it for something fancy from a "normal" grocery store.

It doesn't really show up in my photos, but there are lots of little floaty bits in there, so you better give it a good shake before pouring, unless you want your last glass to be 100% pulp
I opened up the bottle and the smell was really refreshing, but a bit on the concentrated side. This smells exactly like frozen pink lemonade concentrate mixed with cucumbers. It's pretty interesting, and very different from any other drink I've had before.

Look at that lovely color! The change from bottle to glass is pretty significant, I mean, just look at the two side by side. They're completely different! When poured, it reminds me of the Rose Lemonade from Fentiman's, but this isn't carbonated, so it's slightly more vibrant.

I took a sip and I honestly don't know how I feel about this. The initial flavoring is sweet, like the Tsamma watermelon juice I reviewed, but there is a healthy dose of cucumber flavoring, and the finish is similar to a concentrated lemonade. It's not as refreshing as I thought it'd be, due to the tangy aftertaste, but I don't know if I like this, or if I feel like I'm drinking something from Bath and Body Works.

I had to drink 3 glasses to form an opinion. In the end, it doesn't even matter I decided that I do like it. (I mean, I did drink three glasses of it, and I don't regret it, so it's good.) The watermelon and cucumber flavoring is really different from anything I've ever had before, but I wish the lemonade part of this was less concentrated and more authentic. If it didn't have that overly tangy finish, I think this would have been a lot more refreshing and it would have been more enjoyable overall. I don't think I would buy another bottle (unless it was super cheap and on clearance), but the combination was yummy enough for me to experiment and make my own version in the future. So my final verdict is that this does NOT taste like liquid Bath & Body Works lotion, but it might be trying a bit too hard in the lemonade department. I rather have something more authentic, but if you're a fan of bottled fruity lemonades, I'm sure you'll love this stuff.

  1. This is the best lemonade I have ever tried. The second best was the Mango flavored lemonade I purchased at the same time. I have been to about10 Aldi stores looking for it and no one knows what I'm talking about. I am told it must have been a specialty item. PLEASE BRING IT BACK
