Cookies & Cream Flavored Comedy

Cookies & Cream Flip Chobani Yogurt  - Aldi
Do you know who Christopher Titus is? (You're reading a random Jersey girl's food blog so I'm guessing you probably don't, but hear me out for a second, we'll get to the yogurt.) He's an American comedian, actor, writer, and podcast host.
One night, when I was in middle school, I happened to catch Titus' first big comedy special, Norman Rockwell is Bleeding, and I absolutely fell in love with the way he used comedy to cope with traumatic life experiences.
Eventually, someone at Fox approached him to do a TV show based on that special. The result? Titus. A dark, yet relatable, television program that lasted a mere three seasons. You know how some people LOVE The Office? That's how I feel about this show. I own it on DVD and have watched it several times all the way through with and without commentary! The DVD box sets are incredibly hard to come by, but as of today all three seasons were released by Christopher Titus himself on YouTube for FREE
I thought I would share this little gem because the world is pretty much on fire right now and, "once you've driven your drunk father to your mom's parole hearing, what else is there?"
Anyway, Titus and Jim Henson's Dinosaurs pretty much made me who I am today, and I wanted to share the series. Now, let's eat some yogurt!
Yogurt is something I used to review pretty frequently on the blog, so much so that I kind of ruined it for myself. (Like pumpkin flavored stuff.)

The main reason I couldn't resist giving this particular flavor a try were the mix ins. More specifically the, "creamy icing pieces." The art on the packaging made them look like flakes of dried coconut, but would they be real flakes of sandwich cookie filling? Or white chocolate lie-blobs? I had to know.
When opened, the yogurt smells sweet and vanilla'd with a delightfully viscous texture typical of Greek yogurt. On it's own, the yogurt is quite nice. It's sweet, without being overly sweet, with some real vanilla flavoring and a slightly sour finish towards the end. Not as decadent as Noosa's vanilla yogurt, which is my absolute favorite vanilla Greek yogurt on the market, but it'll do in a pinch. The thing that makes this special are the mix-ins.
In the mix-in cup we have crushed up chocolate cookie bits, which look Oreo-like without being name-brand-y, and extruded white pieces that look kind of like semi-translucent waxy sprinkles. I grabbed a "sprinkle" and gave it a try and to my surprise, it tasted like real sandwich cookie icing. Again, not quite Oreo. This has a stiffer consistency which reminds me of the icing found on a black and white cookie.
I flipped the little mix-in cup over, gave everything a good stir, and found that the cookie bits gave the yogurt a much needed textural boost, but other than that, the cookie bits tasted more chocolate-y on their own, and the decadence of the icing sprinkles was mostly lost as well. It's a yummy combination, but when you know how delicious each component is on it's own, you can really see how much flavor gets lost in the mix-in process. It's kind of like gilding the lily.
Part of me thinks Chobani should release a line of shakers with their mix-in toppings for either yogurts, or ice cream. Then again, there is nothing stopping you from doing that yourself. Buy some store brand sandwich cookies, crush them up, and put them in a shaker to add to yogurt, ice cream, and whatever else your heart desires.
That being said, this is a yummy product, but I can't see myself buying it again. I rather DIY.

  1. Christopher Titus uploaded his entire show, and most of his specials (including the one you mentioned) to his YouTube channel, recently.

  3. I love the idea Chobani Shakers! Releasing more exciting toppings. Maybe creme brulee shaker would be good.
