Wakabato Arumi Kani Chips - Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ

Wakabato Arumi Kani Chips - Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ
It’s always fun to try something savory, because a majority of the foods I find are sweets, so today we have some crab chips.
I really like the taste of crab, so I think these will be really interesting. (I typically like seafood but I am picky. I won’t eat anything with tentacles.)
The bag is bright red, yellow, silver and it has adorable crab cartoons scuttling all over it. I am pretty sure these chips are flavored artificially and don’t use real crab meat, so I guess there is a reason for these little cartoon crabs to be so happy.
When I opened the bag I expected a fishy or crabby smell, but it wasn’t there. All I could smell was the oil these were cooked in.

The chips are very puffy and light. They are similar to pork rinds, but a bit more styrofoam-y. I really love the color of these crisps. Each one is a very soft pink and they look really pretty poured into a bowl.
When I ate the first chip I could barely taste the crabby flavor, but after 2 or 3 chips the flavor built up and became more apparent. These taste a LOT like imitation crab meat, which I like, and it reminds me of California rolls.
If you like crab meat, seafood, or sushi…grab of bag of these. I think they are really yummy and fun.
