Coffee Time Syrup - ShopRite: Berlin, NJ (Quickie Review)

Coffee Time Syrup - ShopRite: Berlin, NJ
Chocolate milk for coffee addicted adults! Are any of you subscribed to foodie Youtuber, Emmymadeinjapan? (If not, you should be.) She made a video last year talking about coffee milk, which is the official drink of Rhode Island. Over a year later, I happened to be wandering around a grocery store (waiting for my car to be serviced), and I found a bottle of coffee syrup to make my own coffee milk! From what I've read online, it seems like this is the branding and packaging for the same syrup Emmy reviewed in Rhode Island, but this is how that brand markets to other states. I figured it would make an interesting review item, plus it might be something new for my coffee addicted boyfriend to try, so into my cart it went.

There isn't much to this product, so this is going to be a really quick review.

The bottle is a creamy, opaque, beige color that you don't see very often, and the label has a vintage inspired design. As far as packaging goes, this is really simplistic, but it works. The script-y logo adds just the right amount of playfulness, and the overall color scheme evokes a fun retro feel. (And coffee.) All of the information is printed on the retro-looking, front facing, label, and the back is completely blank. I love this bottle! Just looking at it makes me want to put on a shirt-dress and have an obnoxiously themed retro-ice cream party. (Maybe I will one day.)

Just like chocolate syrup, there is a protective foiled seal at the top of the bottle, so you have to remove that before use. Once removed, the syrup smells sweet and malty, with a sugary hint of coffee.

I started pouring some syrup into my glass and, even though I shook the bottle, it was really runny. (I think it's supposed to have a very thin consistency though. So this is normal.) The syrup is a rich, red-ish-brown color when poured, but as it pools, it becomes a darker, more opaque, molasses-color.

I added some whole milk and started stirring. As it mixed, the coffee turned into a lovely beige-y color, similar to a milk-heavy latte. After one sip, I was hooked. This stuff is very sweet, think about it as a coffee equivalent to chocolate syrup, but I tend to drink my coffee with a lot of milk and sugar anyway, so this was perfect for me. I can taste a mild coffee flavoring, similar to a coffee milkshake or ice cream, and a hint of malt. My coffee addicted boyfriend didn't care for this very much (he practically drinks his black), but I love it.

If you're a fan of coffee ice cream, or milkshakes, this is the drink for you. I think that it's way better than chocolate milk, and I'm already imagining all of the recipes, milkshakes, and frozen frappes I can make with this in the future. If you see this on the shelves, I'd say it's definitely worth a try. (But if you like your coffee intense, bitter and black, pass this one by.)

  1. NICE REVIEW AND YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD,I HAVE BEEN DRINKING IT SINCE THE 60S ,IT IS DEFINITELY A LOT HARDER TO FIND IN THE STORES AND IF YOU DO GRAB A FEW BOTTLES WHEN YOU SEE IT...IT PUTS CHOCOLATE SYRUP TO SHAME AND CAN RUN A CLOSE FIRST WITH STRAWBERRY...PUT IT ON ICE CREAM,IN ALCHOHOLIC DRINKS AND IN CAKE AND COOKIE MIX....IT IS GRAND!
