Thank You Cherry Much Ice Cream Pint - Aldi $1.99
A while ago, Aldi started offering three permanent flavors of "Super Premium Ice Cream" and it's pretty obvious that this is their attempt at a house-brand Ben and Jerry's. Just look at it!
Instead of a cow, we've got a (nightmarish clip-art) sheep, bright colors and playful ice cream flavor names. Even though, "Thank You Cherry Much" is pretty lame when compared to the ever cool "Cherry Garcia," from the looks of the flavor description, they might be one and the same. Cherry Garcia is my #1 favorite Ben and Jerry's flavor, (it makes the BEST root beer floats) so if this $1.99 pint turns out to be a dupe, my wallet and I are going to be very happy.
Woah! This is a significantly darker cherry-color than any pint of Cherry Garcia I've ever had, and it looks darker than the ice cream shown on the front of the packaging as well. Maybe this won't be as dupe-y as I thought.
On the surface I see a few scattered cherry pieces (which are my favorites) and a bunch of little "fudge" flakes. Enough analyzing, I wanna stuff my face!
I targeted a little piece of cherry around the perimeter and scooped up a spoonful. As a Cherry Garcia fan, I can tell you that this does NOT taste exactly like Cherry Garcia, but it is fairly close. The ice cream base here has more of a cherry-heavy flavoring to it, which I do really like, but it's just not the same. Since I'm so loyal to my number one B&J's flavor, this is my least favorite of the three current Aldi offerings, BUT it's still really yummy.
If you're looking for an exact B&J's dupe, you'll be disappointed, but overall, this is a delicious chocolate cherry ice cream, and if I wasn't so enamored with Cherry Garcia, I'm sure I'd be over the moon for it. So even though this flavor didn't win me over, the other two Aldi offerings are DELICIOUS and I have repurchased them several times over. I highly recommend these pints of ice cream, and for $1.99?! I suggest you all give them a try!

ReplyDeleteHooray! Okay some of my top favorite year-round Aldi items are:
Delete- Make Fudge Not War Ice Cream pint (Sooo fudgy!)
- Garlic Naan (Makes GREAT personal pizzas)
- Chocolate blueberry acai Superberries (b/f eats a bag a week)
- Frozen hashbrowns
- Double Chocolate Walnut Cookies (a family fav)
- Cinnamon Monkey bread loaf (makes GREAT french toast)
I buy a lot of my staples there too, like romaine, veggies, fruit, bacon, etc because they're yummy and affordable, but these are fancier specialty items I LOVE.
Let me know if you give any of them a try!
Thank you!
ReplyDeleteAldi's can have quality issues. The chips in their Cherry Garcia knockoff - some had a powdered sugar mouth feel and some were gritty. Not chocolatey. Not good. Not super premium in my book. Won't be buying it again.
ReplyDeleteI love this ice cream. It is my favorite cherry ice cream, as I like it having a cherry base flavor. And the price can't be beat!
ReplyDeleteAgreed! I'm all for a bold cherry base, and thankfully this flavor has stuck around!
DeleteI should have said a "heavier" cherry base flavor.
