Cinnamon Roll Cheesecake: breakfast of champions?

Cinnamon Roll Cheesecake - Aldi $3.99
We started our journey with Pumpkin Cheesecake, took a detour through the freezer section with the Swirlin' Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream, and now we're bringing things to a close with a decadent, spiced, cinnamon roll cheesecake. The kicker? I normally don't like cheesecake, and yet, I really liked the first two items. Will this Cinnamon Roll cheesecake end my positive review streak? Or am I officially a cheesecake convert? We shall see.
The packaging for this product is exactly the same as the Pumpkin version I reviewed earlier this week. Again, I love this portioning, but there's nothing much to talk about here, so let's jump right into the review.
Once freed from it's triangular-plastic-pyramid-prison, this cheesecake smells like straight-up Cinnabon. It's sweet, cinnamon-y, and vanilla'd, with a tangy hint of cream cheese. The scent is more cinnamon-heavy than cream cheesy, so I have high hopes that this will be another hit.
I took a bite, and I was underwhelmed. The cheesecake itself is VERY sweet, but other than that overwhelming sweetness with a hint of tangy cheese, I thought this was rather bland. Once, when I was making grocery store cinnamon buns (the kind that come in a pop-able tube) I thought to myself, cinnamon bun dough must taste awesome, like cookie dough! So I grabbed a hunk of raw cinnamon bun dough and ate it. It was nowhere near as awesome as I had hoped. It was bland, doughy, and baking-powder-heavy with a greasy hint of cinnamon. Take that, and slather it in sugary sweet cream cheese icing, and you have this cheese cake.
For me, this is unbalanced. The icing on top is incredibly sweet, with some light cinnamon flavoring, but the cheese cake portion just too doughy and not cinnamon-y enough.
I shared slices with my boyfriend and his daughter to see if I was alone in my disappointment. My boyfriend agreed that it was overwhelmingly sweet, with very little flavor payoff. He preferred the (vastly superior) pumpkin cheesecake. However, his daughter really enjoyed this cinnamon bun flavor and turned up her nose at the pumpkin. It's all about personal preferences. She really loves cheesecake, and even after our cheesecake filled week, she went to cheesecake factory TWICE to get her cheesecake-y fix. (FYI she ordered the Oreo/Cookies n' Cream cheesecake AND the Cookie Dough.)
Cheesecake lovers, I'm sure you'll love this flavor and can devour the whole container on your own. I, on the other hand, am not a fan of this flavor (and neither was my boyfriend.) Compared to the pumpkin version, this flavor is heavier, blander, and (dare I say) doughy. I guess this ends my cheesecake streak on a sour note, since I'd never purchase this particular flavor again, but I still stand by my positive reviews for the other two products. If you're looking for a flavorful, seasonal, fix, be sure to grab the pumpkin version before it's gone! This one? I'd recommend it to cheesecake addicts, but there are better things to waste your calories on.

  1. I think maybe if they went with a cinnamon flavored cheesecake base with a swirl of cream cheese flavored cheesecake. Then drizzled with icing might be better.
