Which Slight Twist on a Classic is Superior?

Salted Caramel MilkyWay vs Peanut Brownie Snickers

Two classic candy bars slightly change things up, which is superior? The one that added salt, or the one that changed their nougat to "brownie?"

Salted Caramel MilkyWay - I never understood the MilkyWay haters, I LOVE this candy bar, especially when it's frozen, and adding chunky bits of salt only made me love it more. It adds a crunchy texture, and salt of course, to the chocolate, caramel and nougat you already know and love. It's not a dramatic reinvention, but a minor improvement, and I might even like it better than the original. (Then again I seems to be going through a salty snack phase at the moment.)

Snickers Peanut Brownie
- Snickers on the other hand? Not so much. By now you all know I'm not a huge fan of peanuts, so that's probably the only reason why this candy bar has always ranked so low for me. (I don't like Baby Ruth either.) When my ex and his daughter lived here, they were both big Snickers fans, so I kept buying them and keeping them in stock in both classic candy bar and ice cream form, but now that they're gone, this has been a Snickers-free household. So there might be a bit of unearned bitterness towards this candy bar due to my own personal bias but, sadly, this new brownie version is not winning me over.

It's like those Little Debbie brownies, but with peanuts instead of walnuts. The "brownie" portion seems to be a fudgy dark chocolate confection, like fudge, or nougat, not an actual brownie, there are plenty of peanuts, a thin layer of caramel and a layer of milk chocolate. The caramel is overpowered by a lot of the other elements, but the faint caramel flavoring mixed with the fudgy "brownie" portion is like a softer less dental-work-hating version of Riesen. Which I love, if you could kick the peanuts out of there, this would be perfect for me, but since the candy squares are rather thin, the peanuts are pretty hard to miss, and I found little bits of them lingering in my teeth. It's all about personal preferences, and as a peanut hater, I did not care for this candy bar, BUT I think Snickers fans who may also enjoy Riesens would probably love it.

For me, the Salted Caramel MilkyWay is the only one I would repurchase, but I can appreciate the Brownie Squares for what they attempt to be. It's just not for me (as is.) If Riesen took notice and released their own, easier to chew, candy bar, that would be pretty great too!

  1. Sending virtual hugs. You seemed like you were in a bit of a funk, maybe? But, I love Snickers (though don't think I would like this.....I don't like solid chocolate, and this might be too much chocolate). But the Milkey Way - it sounds awesome! I will for sure look for it.

    1. Thanks for the virtual hugs, I think I definitely needed one. Hope you can find the Milky way bar!

  2. I love the salted caramel best, and I love it even more than the original!
