Where have you been hidin' out lately, honey? - Fruity Cereal Kit-Kat Bar

When I first started blogging, I would find out about a new product and purposefully go out to several stores just to find it. Hitting up three Targets in a day to find exclusive limited edition m&m's or different flavors of Peeps. It was fun while it lasted, but I don't do that anymore. I just go about my day, run errands, and if I happen to see stuff while I'm out and about, I'll get it.  That's what happened here. I saw this flavor released on Instagram, what feels like ages ago, and then I spotted it at CVS in a Key Lime Kit-Kat display box while buying Neosporin. (Living that glamourous cat-owner life.)

By now, Blueberry Muffin Kit-Kats have been released, which means Fruity Cereal is old news, but it's still Rock n Roll to me. I'm still excited to give this a try.

So, what is "Fruity Cereal?" It appears to be generic Froot Loops, which is an interesting choice. Why not the bolder Fruity Pebbles? Previously, Oreo opted for a Fruity Pebbles-flavor, with their Fruity Crisp cookies and the bogus 2017 Mystery flavor which was officially Fruity Pebbles. Given the recent anniversary for Pebbles, I really thought that would be the way to go, but no. They went loops.

Unwrapped, the bar is pink with speckles of colored cereal and a creamy citrus aroma. It's very pretty, and certainly smells like breakfast, but if you ask me, it leans more tart and bold, like Pebbles, than it does Froot Loops.

Taking a bite, the exterior feels a bit waxier than usual, taking a while to melt on my tongue as I chew. Which I don't love, but it does taste like it promised. It's immediately recognizable as fruity breakfast cereal. The base is a little cloyingly sweet, like most white chocolate-confectionary, but there is a bright, non-specific-citrus cereal flavoring that shines through. I think it is bolder than Froot Loops, but not quite as bold as Pebbles. Kind of like you poured yourself a bowl of store brand Fruity Pebbles, but they sat in milk for a little too long and now some of the flavor has washed away.

The only real issue I have with this flavor is the white confectionary base. I hate it's waxy texture and wish it melted more nicely, but other than that, the flavor is accurate and pretty darn delicious.

If you like Fruity Pebbles, Fruity Crisp Oreos, or cereal milk ice cream, this is the Kit-Kat bar for you. I'm glad I got to try it before it disappears.
