TERRIBLE Tuesday - Super Mario 3D Fruit Gummies

Super Mario 3D Fruit Gummies - Dollar Tree ($1.00)
Two years ago I reviewed 3-D Nintendo gummies, and I really liked them. The flavors were enjoyable, and the bite was soft like a gumdrop, but it was the attention to detail in the candy molds that really blew me away. I was sad that none of the Nintendo ladies were represented (did we really need Diddy Kong if we already had DK?), but overall I really liked this product and wanted to re-purchase it for some off-the-blog snacking. Apparently it's gone through some changes and...well, I nearly called this post "Abomination Tuesday." It lacked alliteration, so I opted for Terrible, which in my opinion is a bit of an understatement. Something's gone horribly, horribly wrong...

Pac-Man Arcade Cabinet Candy - Five Below

Pac-Man Arcade Cabinet Candy - Five Below
It's a nostalgic novelty product-filled weekend! After having the moment earlier ranting about The Real Ghostbusters animated series and Twinkies, I'm back with another retro throw back, this time it's gaming related!
Growing up my mother and grandmother each had a NES. That's right, they were cool like that, and I used to watch them play all kinds of games. (Well mostly my mom. Grandma only played the original Mario and Duck Hunt and never tried anything else.) This was long before the Let's Play days on YouTube, for me, my mom was the original Markiplier. She'd play Megaman 4, Q*bert, Mario 1, 2 & 3, Tetris and Pac-man. I would play a little here and there, but I really got into Pac-Man and Tetris somewhere in my teens.

Yoshi Island Gummy Egg - J-Box

Yoshi Island Gummy Egg - J-Box
I posted a little teaser of this over on my Instagram a few days ago. I said it once and I'll say it again, I freaking love Yoshi's Island. I grew up with the original NES, which my mother and grandmother played while I was a baby (That's right, they're that cool.), and when I was older, I had my own SNES with a handful of games. I had Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario World, and Super Mario World 2, also known as Yoshi's Island. That's it. I would play these games over and over trying to get everything on each level, I'm a total completionist, and I couldn't of been happier.

Nintento 3-DEES Fruit Snacks - Dollar General : Cherry Hill, NJ

Nintento 3-DEES Fruit Snacks - Dollar General : Cherry Hill, NJ
Remember THESE sweet-tart-like Nintendo candies? Well there are 3-D gummy ones too!
The package design is a bright Mario-red with large images of Nintendo characters. Overall, the design focuses on the characters and not the candy, which is typical for a novelty product. People are buying this because it’s Nintendo, not necessarily for the candy or it’s flavor.
Ignore the packaging, just look at these gummy shapes! The figures are surprisingly detailed and they can even stand up on their own! (Which is great for photos.)

Nintendo Candies - Dollar General : Cinnaminson, NJ

Nintendo Candies - Dollar General : Cinnaminson, NJ
Since I don’t have the main package, tonight’s post is a mini review on this novelty Nintendo product. Originally I wasn’t going to do one on this, but I was so impressed by the detail in these candies I decided to do one anyway.

Power Up Energy Drink - Five Below : The Gallery, Philadelphia, PA

Power Up Energy Drink - Five Below : The Gallery, Philadelphia, PA
Time for the last video game themed energy drink! Here we have Mario’s Power Up.

Just like the DK one, this can’s design is just a character against a basic background. At least DK had stars! Mario just gets a solid blue filler. It could have been a Mario stage or at least had little mushroom shapes on it.

Opening the can I could smell bubble gum. I HATE bubble gum flavored items so this was a very bad sign for me.

Jungle Juice Energy Drink - Five Below : The Gallery, Philadelphia, PA

Jungle Juice Energy Drink - Five Below : The Gallery, Philadelphia, PA
Here is another video game themed energy drink to celebrate Wreck it Ralph! This time it’s Donkey Kong’s Jungle Juice.
Right off the bat, the name really isn’t appealing. What is “jungle juice” anyway?
This can design is really basic. I feel like they could have done a lot more. (It could have been a barrel!) It seems like a lot more thought was put into the Pac-Man can design. (Even DK himself looks confused and disappointed!)
