Ghostbusters Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Collab

Krispy Kreme released a new Ghostbusters collaboration for the franchise's 40th anniversary.

If you're new here, I'm a big Ghostbusters fan. I've had marshmallow flavored Slimer shakes, Ghostbusters burgers, Twinkies, Ecto-Cooler, and official novelty campfire marshmallows. Admittedly I was not a huge fan of Frozen Empire, the newest movie in the franchise, so I skipped those specific food-tie-ins intentionally, but there was no way I was missing these doughnuts.

Speaking of movies, since my last post I've watched:
      1. The Fall of the House of Usher (Netflix) - 8/10 - second time watching it through
      2. Ouija: Origin of Evil (Netflix) - 8/10 - liked it more than I thought I would .
      3. Scooby Doo on Zombie Island (Max) - 10/10 - It's Terror Time Again is my jam.
      4. School Spirits (season 1) (Netflix) - 8/10 - it's campy- fun, I really enjoyed it and want more!
      5. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice - (Theaters) 8/10 - a third time! "Keeps getting funnier every single time I see it!"
      6. Agatha All Along (Disney+) - 6/10 - fun so far, but I'm not loving it like everyone else
      7. It's What's Inside (Netflix) - 10/10 - dark comedy is my favorite, refreshing and fun
Flavor-wise, this collaboration is pretty basic, but Krispy Kreme is a reliable brand that rarely misses. Even though these flavors aren't all that different from other offerings they've had in the past, I know they're going to deliver that classic Krispy Kreme flavor I know and love, so I'm down to buy them even if it's more-so novelty decorations.

We have 4 different doughnuts in this collab:

The Ecto-Sprinkled Doughnut  - a classic glazed doughnut topped with bright orange icing and half-dipped in a Halloween-color-coded chunky sprinkle mix.

The most basic of the four. It's soft, it's sweet, the sprinkles are crunchy. The colors say, "Halloween," but the flavoring is no different from year-round sprinkle doughnuts. It's good, I enjoy it, but it's not a stand out. (I feel like they should have gone with "Sprinkled Spangler," a nod to Egon.)

Ghostbusters Cookies and Cream
- Wow, not even "scream?" Again, naming leaves much to be desired here. This is another classic glazed doughnut, topped with chocolate icing, dipped in Oreo bits, and then topped with a dollop of cookies and cream icing in the center with a Ghostbusters edible logo on top.

Again, it's soft, it's sweet, it's delicious in the same way that cookies and cream cupcakes are delicious, , BUT it isn't a flavor that Krispy Kreme offers year-round. We saw something similar in the Oreo and Chips Ahoy collab a while back, so it is outside the norm and not something you can get outside a particular collaboration. That said, if you love cookies and cream, and you have a sweet tooth, definitely grab this one before it's gone. A nice balance of chocolate and cookie flavoring with lots of sweetness.

Slimer Doughnut - This has green-colored lemon-flavored filling inside, purple icing on-top, green icing on top of that, and an edible Slimer candy topper. I love lemon and citrus flavors, so I was really excited for this one, but my doughnut was very underfilled. What filling that I did find was bight and tangy, a nice contrast to all the sweetness from the various icing toppings, but a little underwhelming overall due to the dough-to-filling ratio being so off. It's another nice tasting doughnut, but Lemon filling IS available year-round, so it's another flavor that doesn't really stand out in this collaboration.

Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Pull-a-part Doughnut
- NOW we're talking! I haven't seen a pull apart style doughnut from Krispy Kreme before (admittedly I haven't been  keeping tabs on them so this might not be as new as I think), but this is a novelty shape using mini glazed doughnut bites that have been topped with marshmallow flavored icing and an edible candy face.

The doughnut bite base is fairly standard, but marshmallow icing is not something available year round and I adore all things marshmallow, so I was very excited for this one. Taking a bite, the topping does have that vanilla cereal marshmallow flavoring I know and love. It's very very sweet, but I am into it!

I would say the Cookies and Cream and the Marshmallow Man are the two from this collaboration that are worth getting. The other two are way too similar to year-round offerings. Still, I had a lot of fun with this collaboration and I'm excited to see what else the 40th anniversary of Ghostbusters has to offer!
