Kyushu Seaweed Lay's Potato Chips (Taiwan) - Asian Food Market

Kyushu Seaweed Lay's Potato Chips - Asian Food Market $1.69
With all the candy I've reviewed this week, I am all sugared out. I need something savory and light. Seaweed flavored potato chips should do the trick.

Befco Seaweed flavored Baked Rice Crackers - H-Mart

Befco Seaweed flavored Baked Rice Crackers - H-Mart
I picked up this bag at H-mart and to be honest, I initially had no idea what this was. The images made them look like some kind of flattened potato, but they seemed to be some kind of flavored rice cracker. Since the package was so colorful, and they were celebrating a 25th anniversary of...well, something, I decided to give it a try. (Full disclosure, the weird little illustrated characters on the package was the true deciding factor.)

Tao Kae Noi Kimchi Grilled Seaweed - Asian Food Market

Tao Kae Noi Kimchi Grilled Seaweed - Asian Food Market
Never in my life have I craved kimchi as much as I have the last few weeks.

Kimchi (often spelled kimchee) is a fermented vegetable side dish that originated in Korea. The fermentation process gives these veggies a complex flavoring that is usually paired with a healthy dose of chili peppers for heat. Prepackaged jars are easily found at Korean grocery stores, like my beloved H-Mart, but lately it's been finding it's way into mainstream cuisine and grocery shops. I think you can buy kimchio at Wegman's these days and possibly at some Shop Rites. I've always liked kimchi but recently I feel like something in me has snapped and now I am craving it like never before. (I blame the delicious kimchi samples at this year's Summer Fancy Food Show.)

I may not have a jar of kimchi on hand to satisfy this craving, but I have flavored seaweed snacks, so those will have to do.

Jamaican Irish Moss (Vanilla) - Asian Food Market

Jamaican Irish Moss (Vanilla) - Asian Food Market
If you're following Sometimes Foodie on Instagram, this might look familiar. I posted a photo of this can on Saint Patrick's Day, you know, cause it says "Irish Moss" and all, but I didn't get around to actually drinking it...until now! (To be honest, I was NOT ready for what was inside, and now even after finding out...I'm still not ready!)

Bamboo Salt Seaweed Cracker - Asian Food Market

Bamboo Salt Seaweed Cracker - Asian Food Market
Here's another product that's been sitting in my to-be-reviewed pile for....an embarrassingly long time. But hey, at least this one is savory! Even though I'm a total sugar addict and there's candy in every room of my house (minus the bathrooms, because ew), it's always refreshing when I finally get to reviewing something savory. Let's see if these bamboo seaweed crackers turn out to be a breath of fresh, salty, seaweed-y air.

Seasoned Seaweed Sandwich with Almond and Sesame - TBT Summer Fancy Food Show

Seasoned Seaweed Sandwich with Almond and Sesame - TBT Summer Fancy Food Show
Longest post title ever? It might be! Well, this swanky looking mermaid has red hair, so that's kind of Valentine's Day-y, right? Okay, maybe not, but I have to review it. It's been in my stash for nearly a year! (It expires this April!) Plus it's Thursday, so what better time to review a throwback item with a sassy red-headed mermaid on the package?

Tao Kae Noi Hot Chilli Squid Super Crisp Grilled Seaweed - Sunseng Market

Tao Kae Noi Hot Chilli Squid Super Crisp Grilled Seaweed - Sunseng Market
My last two reviews were candy bars from the same store, which were both delicious, but repetition can get a bit boring, and now for something completely different: Hot Chilli Squid flavored seaweed strips! (Try saying that three times fast!)

Tao Kae Noi Big Roll (Classic Flavor) - NY Fancy Food Show

Tao Kae Noi Big Roll (Classic Flavor) - NY Fancy Food Show
I have a LOT of food in my to-be-reviewed stash, and it's getting way out of hand, so I'm trying to get through the stuff that's been sitting around the longest. I got this seaweed sample at the Summer Fancy Food Show, and that was back in July...so I figured I should probably hurry up and review this thing.

Tao Kae Noi Tempura Seaweed (Curry) - H-Mart: Cherry Hill, NJ

Tao Kae Noi Tempura Seaweed (Curry) - H-Mart: Cherry Hill, NJ
Finally! I bought this bag of curry flavored seaweed snacks months ago (I posted them on youtube sometime around Easter), and I've really been looking forward to this review. Not only is it a combination of curry and seaweed, two of my favorite foods, but it's also tempura-style! This is completely different from my normal seaweed snacks, so let's go ahead and get started!

Tao Kae Noi Crispy Seaweed (Wasabi) - H-Mart: Cherry Hill, NJ

Tao Kae Noi Crispy Seaweed (Wasabi) - H-Mart: Cherry Hill, NJ
It's Meatless Monday again, and this time I'm reviewing a slightly different kind of seaweed snack.

Choi's Wasabi Seaweed Snack - Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ

Choi's Wasabi Seaweed Snack - Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ
I've reviewed two different flavors of these Choi's seaweed snacks in the past, Teriyaki and Hot & Spicy. Both were enjoyable, but I saved my favorite for last!

In 2014, I went wasabi crazy. I bought tubes of it to add to my food at home, bought these wasabi seaweed snacks from Wegman's, wasabi pea crackers, and I ate 5 bags worth of Shirakiku Wasabi Mate last year. That might not seem like a lot, but that large green bag contains several small bags, and as I type this, I have another bag next to me, already open, and ready to feed my wasabi addicition in 2015. I may or may not have a problem. No, really, I might actually have a problem. My tolerance to the wasabi is building up and I'm not getting the same satisfying burn from my favorite snacks that I used to. This specific package of seaweed claims to be "hot," so I am hoping these seaweed snacks can help me get to the next level of wasabi goodness.

Video: Impressionistic Seaweed Snack Review

I'm trying to upload more videos to Youtube, so here's a review on some awesome (and artistic) snacks I got at H-mart.

Choi's 1 Teriyaki Seaweed Snack - Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ

Teriyaki Seaweed Snack - Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ
Full disclosure, I went overboard buying seaweed snacks this year. Not only did a buy a HUGE pack of 16 sea salt snacks, but I was also buying my go-to wasabi ones from Wegman's and a bunch of these flavored Choi's 1 packages. Due to my seaweed overload, these have been sitting in my pile waiting to be reviewed for quite a few months. (Maybe 4?) I finally got around to reviewing the Hot & Spicy Choi's package in July, which was yummy but a bit oily, and now I'm going to review the Teriyaki version.

Hot & Spicy Seaweed Snack- Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ

Hot & Spicy Seaweed Snack- Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ
After trying and falling in love with the Wasabi Seaweed Snacks from Wegman's, I've begun seeing them everywhere, even Walmart and Target! Most of the American grocery stores carry original and wasabi flavored seaweed sheets, so when I saw a few new flavors on special buy at the Asian Food Market I had to have them. Let's see if these Hot & Spicy seaweed snacks can possibly be better than the wasabi version.

Wasabi Roasted & Sea Salted Seaweed Snack - Wegman's: Cherry Hill, NJ

Wasabi Roasted & Sea Salted Seaweed Snack - Wegman's: Cherry Hill, NJ
These crispy little seaweed sheets have been my go-to snack for the last month. I bought my first package back in February when it was a new item, and I meant to review it, but I got a little hungry. Eight packages later, and here I am finally posting a review.

Lay's Stax Seaweed Sushi - Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ

Lay's Stax Seaweed Sushi - Asian Food Market: Cherry Hill, NJ
My student teaching position is now over. I am really sad and already missing my students, but I am looking forward to getting back to work and earning some money. Things were getting really tight since I was unable to work for the last 3-4 months, but I'll find something soon.

Time to get back to my daily foodie reviews! (I'll be queuing stuff up on both my blog and tumblr this week, so no more missed days!)

To be honest, I walked right past these at first and didn't notice them at all. One of my friends (hi Jess!) brought them to my attention and I thought they'd be worth a review. At a glance, the packaging was interesting, but not very well designed. This little box combines the worst traits of both bagged potato chips and Pringles. As soon as you open the box there is a tall package that is half-filled with air, and most of my chips were broken into bits. Then, after the immediate disappointment from your delicious bag of chip-shrapnel, you notice that the container is way too narrow to fit your hands inside. Remember those Tomato flavored Potato Wish chips I reviewed in August? That packaging used a very similar concept, but the execution was infinitely better. (Although those chips were NOT tasty, I'd love to see more of that packaging.) As far as this item's design, I say it's a fail on functionality as well as aesthetics. (Your product needs to be noticed!)
