Swedish Fish Mafia - Various Swedish Fish Products

Today's post has limited edition flavors, sea creatures, and even a black light gimmick. I love OG Red Swedish Fish, but will I love all their new varieties?

Also, (unrelated) I'm cancelling my Netflix subscription in July since I use it the least out of any of my subscriptions. Please give me any suggestions of worthwhile shows to watch before I get rid of it. I've already been through the big ones, like BoJack Horseman, Apothecary Diaries, Frieren (both also on Hulu) all of the Mike Flanagan limited series, and Arcane. Currently I'm watching through Dead Boy Detectives, which is giving me Doom Patrol-meets-Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (it's cute, but so far I'm not in love.) Any recommendations? Please let me know in the comments.

First up, Blue Raspberry Lemonade.

Something is FISHY about these Marshmallows - Swedish Fish Marshmallows

Swedish Fish Marshmallows
- Walmart

When you buy a bag of Swedish Fish, you know exactly what you're getting. Little fish-shaped candies with the recognizable, red, lingonberry flavoring. Steadfast, true, and satisfying. Swedish Fish themed products on the other hand? Not so much.

Anytime I stray from the classic, I regret it. Swedish Fish chocolate Oreos? No, thank you. Crush soda themed Swedish Fish? Somehow, flavorless. Swedish Fish chewing gum? Actually, that one was pretty great. There are some exceptions to the rule, the aforementioned gum, and the Rita's water ice flavor. But the reason those items succeeded where others failed is because they stuck with the red lingonberry flavoring, and just offered it in a new form.

That said, how will these marshmallows fair?

Crushing It? - Crush Soda themed Swedish Fish and Sour Patch Kids

Crush Soda Candies - Dollar Tree

Since the branding, flavors, and pretty much everything about these two Crush themed candies are the same, I thought it would be fun to compare them and find any differences. (Other than one being sour, obviously.) Will all four flavors be the same, just with a sour-coat of paint? Or will the flavors actually differ in their Fishy or Kid forms? Let's find out!

Swim with the Fishes - Tropical Mini Swedish Fish

Swedish Fish Mini Tropical - Dollar Tree

No cool story or anything behind this buy. I just like Swedish Fish. I grew up eating classic red, and so far I have had nothing but good things to say about their new and innovative products. I've tried their candy canes, Trident chewing gum, Rita's water ice flavor, and more recently their Heads and Tails. I purposefully avoided known-duds, like the Swedish Fish Oreos, and overall I have been happy with the quality of their new releases.

So when I spotted this at Dollar Tree, I figured, why not?

Inside we have four different colors/flavors, and my only pet peeve so far is that two of them are super generic.

Heads or Tails?

Swedish Fish Tails
Is there anyone out there that prefers the mixed-flavor Swedish Fish to the original red?

Maybe I'm just a Swedish Fish purist, but red fishies are the only fishies for me. However, it seems like Swedish Fish as a brand are changing with the times and branching out. We now have tropical fish, Crush Soda fish, and these fruity two-toned fish joining the...ocean? Tank? Family?

Whatever the terminology, It's nice to see a classic candy changing with the times, but will these new flavors live up to the original?

Swedish Fish Trident Layers Gum - Gift

Swedish Fish Trident Layers Gum - Gift
Okay, time to get back into the swing of things. I have a ton of posts related to the Summer Fancy Food Show coming up, but my brain (and legs) are basically pudding. It'll take me a day or two to recover and collect my thoughts. In the meantime, let's get back into the normal review routine.

This was one of the candy items I mentioned in the "Desperately Seeking" segment of Candyology101. I really wanted to try this chewing gum, and I had been looking for it everywhere, but I just couldn't find it. Right before I left for NY there was a pretty strong storm here in NJ (some argue it was a tornado) and a lot of people lost power. My bosses went out after the storm to grab some lighters and candles, and when they saw this gum, they bought it for me. (Thank you!)

Swedish Fish Candy Canes - Wegman's: Cherry Hill, NJ

Swedish Fish Candy Canes - Wegman's: Cherry Hill, NJ
I actually bought this on a whim and hadn't planned on reviewing it, but they were so interesting, I decided to cobble together a review anyway. I have a big bottle of Swedish Fish "Gummy" vodka, so when I saw these in the seasonal aisle at Wegman's I thought this might make a fun, and edible, garnish/stir-stick for some mixed drinks. I tossed the box into my cart and off I went.
