Puccho, is that you? - Puchao

Puchao

Lookie what I found at Walmart! Puchao, or really, Puccho, just repackaged and rebranded for international audiences. Over the years Hi-Chew has gotten far easier to get in the states, with various flavors available at places like Walmart, 7-Eleven, and Five Below. I guess Puccho realized they have a similar enough product, so why not make it look similar and target the same audience?

But, will it taste the same? Or did they reformulate?

This Candy is Older Than My Dog, Let's Eat It!

Lilikoi and Pineapple Hi-Chew - Gift...from 2016

Like many people, to kick off the new year I started deep cleaning my house and what did I find? These Hi-Chew (from 2015). Five to six years ago Marvo from The Impulsive Buy sent me these exclusive Hi-Chew from Hawaii, and I totally lost them. Deep in a box of things from my old bedroom, there they were. I hated the idea of throwing them out, and does candy ever -really- go bad? I mean, it's not like they got wet or anything...

So today I will be tempting fate, and dental work, by trying these two Hi-Chew flavors that officially expired in October of 2016. Wish me luck!

Starburst on Steroids

Sweet & Sour Hi-Chew  - H-Mart
If you've never experienced a Hi-Chew, you're missing out. These are Starburst on steroids. I introduced my fiancee to these candies when we started dating, and since he loves all things chewy, they quickly became one of his favorite candies.
Thankfully they are getting more traction here in America. A few years ago I could only find them in Asian markets, but now big chains like Target, Walmart, and 7-Eleven regularly keep them in stock. It's beautiful. Still, for the more unique flavors and mixes, the Asian markets can't be beat. I grabbed these at H-Mart and I'm excited to give them a try since I have NEVER had a bad flavor of Hi-Chew, but you know what they say? Never say never.

Moguchuu? I Barely Know You!

Yaokin Moguchuu Cola  - Rocket Fizz $1.49
These came from Rocket Fizz, which is a nifty chain of novelty shops that sell candies, wacky gifts, and tons of weird sodas. In fact, I think they carry pretty much every novelty soda there is, from Buffalo Wing to Apple Pie, to Grass. I was very temoted to get a bunch of weird drinks but, as fun as that is, weird sodas usually aren't that good. They're great for a, "wow! That was weird," moment, but after the initial novelty wears off, the drinks are rarely worth repurchasing. So, I opted for some quirky snacks instead.
I can barely keep my eyes open ('cause I'm getting old dying) so let's get right into this quickie review!

More Pokemon Goodies! - What Starter did you pick?

Since Sun and Moon came out  today in the USA, I thought it'd be fun to (finally) review these Pokemon themed fruit chews I picked up at H-Mart.
Did you pick up Sun & Moon? And if so, what starter did you pick?

Banana Hi-Chew - Gift

Banana Hi-Chew - Gift
Back when Candyology 101 celebrated it's 1-year anniversary, Marvo, who's our producer and the awesome guy behind The Impulsive Buy, sent us a little plaque and some candy to celebrate! Our little goody bags included sweets that were exclusive to Hawaii, and a few tropical flavors of Hi-Chew, which included banana! In case you haven't noticed, I freaking love banana! Now, if you look at my watermark you can tell that these photos are old, and the reason I took so long to post this review is because...I ate the entire package before writing anything up. What can I say? I have no willpower when it comes to banana candies! Thankfully my beloved Asian Food Market just so happened to get these in stock (finally) so now I have a fresh package here to give you all the low-down on this delicious, chewy, addicting goodness.

Candyology101 Episode 18: Japanese Sweets

On today's episode of Candyology101, Cybele and I discuss three hugely popular Japanese candies, Pocky, Kasugai gummies, and Hi-Chew! All three of these sweets are becoming easier to find in American grocery stores, so hopefully everyone out there listening can easily find and try these delicious goodies for yourselves.

We have a little bit of history behind each company, Cybele and I share our favorite flavors, and we even play a little game where Cybele lists a (possibly) made-up Japanese sweet and I need to guess if it's real or not! Join us as we discuss the good, the bad, and the tomato-y!

Have you been liking Candyology101 so far?

Please head on over to itunes and give us a little review to let us know how we're doing.
