Laffy Taffy - Orange Sherbet & Lemon-RaspberryWhen I saw these, I thought I had already reviewed them, specifically in some kind of Easter-themed mix. Searching through my blog, there was no sign of them. Did I imagine it? Was it something I ate and never wrote up? Are these completely new and my brain is finally at the point where I've forgotten what I've tried and what I haven't?
Time to fix that.
Pineapple and Guava Laffy Taffy - Dollar Tree
First those Laff Bites last week, and now these?
Turns out I've been doing this for long enough that I have finally forgotten what items I've reviewed and what I haven't. In my mind I thought I had already written up a bunch of flavors of Laffy Taffy, so I searched for them on my own blog and ended up finding only one post, the fall themed Pumpkin Donut and Apple Crisp flavors they released in 2016. (And last week's Laff Bites of course.)
That's it. How is that possible? I know for a fact I have eaten a ton of Laffy Taffy in my lifetime, maybe not so much in the last 3-years, but still! This is something I should remedy, and thankfully Dollar Tree had this fun tropical peg-bag at the ready.
Oh, and when can peanuts laugh?
I love Starbursts. I love them so much that made this purse! It was made using clear vinyl, thread, tons of Starburst wrappers, and nylon strapping for handles. I had just taught myself to sew, so it wasn't great, but I still have it and it still works!
I remember hoarding wrappers for ages and being pissed when the logo changed from a round "S" to a tear-drop. (I have since comes to terms with it.) I remember when Sours were first introduced, and their spiky sunburst-logo blowing up my spot (seen in the blue area of the bag), and I remember a Retro themed mix that had an awesome "Optimus Lime" flavor, and trippy white wrappers, that I thought were really ugly at the time, but looking back they were really cool. (Wish I saved more of those!)
So yeah, I'm a pretty big Starburst fan. That said, when these were announced, I was pretty "meh," about the whole concept.
Peko chan is back with more lollipop flavors! Well, just one new flavor, but it's an interesting one!
Last year I reviewed the insanely adorable Halloween version of these lollipops which included the standard grape, strawberry, and orange flavored candies which are also included in this bag. To see my thoughts on the original fruity trio, check out last year's review. This time around I'm only going to focus on the new, green-colored flavor addition: Pear!
Since Sun and Moon came out today in the USA, I thought it'd be fun to (finally) review these Pokemon themed fruit chews I picked up at H-Mart.
I couldn't find these on their own, so I had to buy a giant bag of Wonka Halloween candy just to review these seasonal flavors. Which means that if these suck I'm stuck with a lot of them. Well until Halloween anyway. (That's right, I use Halloween as an excuse to get rid of the B-team candy that get lackluster reviews on the blog. But last year I also handed out Giant Pixie Stix, so I think my candy karma balances out.)
There's really not much for me to review packaging-wise, so let's read some terrible jokes and then get right into the review!
Now & Later Quickie Review
A while ago, Cybele and I recorded a Now & Later themed episode of Candyology 101. To prepare for the recording, I went out and grabbed a few flavors to photograph and munch on, and they've been sitting on my desk ever since. The photos are all finished and edited, so I figured I might as well finish off the bag and type up a formal review!
Things are getting spoopy! (And that's no typo.)
The day before Halloween I went to H-mart and found a bunch of freaking adorable Halloween goodies. This is pretty rare, because the Asian markets in the area typically don't usually carry seasonal products, and when they do they're usually really out of season, but this was right on time! I was so excited about it that I recorded a Halloween Haul video right before hosting my Halloween party.
One of the candies I picked up back then were these lollipops, and I absolutely loved the packaging. While at H-mart this week, buying more kitchen staples like hoisin sauce and seasoned rice vinegar, I saw that they were still in stock, and better yet, on sale!
Cute fruit lollipops that are Halloween-themed AND cheap? Needless to say...I bought 2 more bags, so I figured I'd post a more in depth review.
It's a fruit flavored chewy taffy square that has always lived in Starburst's shadow. On today's Candyology 101 Cybele and I talk about Now and Laters! This tangy taffy may be the enemy of fillings and dental work, but it something I grew up enjoying with my friends and I feel like it's never had it's moment in the sun. There's not much history for this product, but there is something very very wrong with their wiki page.... What am I talking about? Today is my friend Karen's birthday, so why not celebrate by eating a cake flavored taffy and then describing it to a bunch of strangers on the internet? To top things off I'm not even sharing it with her! (Sorry Karen, but to be honest, I'm really skeptical about this flavor, so it sounds selfish, but I might be taking a cake-flavored bullet for you. You're welcome.)
Every time I buy a Dum-Dums product I get the song from their 90's commercial stuck in my head. Looking back, I feel like that commercial and the Blow Pop one were always being shown on Nickelodeon! I can still recite them both from heart, along with the kickass song from the Crossfire commercial!
Dum-Dums lollipops have been around for quite some time but they aren't letting their brand get stale. They've been having some fun releasing pizza, bacon, and buttered popcorn flavored lollipops, some jelly bean centered candies for Easter, and now these new Heart-shaped pops offer two flavors in one.
Cocomels Quickie Review - NY Fancy Food Show
Cocomels are absolutely amazing! They're rich, buttery, and decadent, which makes for a delicious candy, but as a caramel substitute, it's only accurate as far as the texturing is concerned. It's made from coconut milk, so there's no getting around this coconut flavoring, but for coconut lovers like me, that's not a problem! I love this stuff!
It tastes like a delicious coconut salt water taffy, but with a much softer and thinner texture. It's great for people with restrictive diets or allergies, because it's dairy free gluten free, vegan, and kosher. I have a great uncle who's lactose intolerant, and a cousin whose entire family are gluten free due to Celiac disease, and this stuff is so good that I'd buy it as a gift for everyone in my family regardless of restrictive diets or allergies. Instead of buying specialty products to single them out, this is a gourmet treat that my extended family will enjoy and if you like coconut, you might even like this more than real caramel.

James Salt Water Taffy - Wildwood, NJI have been having a REALLY hard time writing this week. I've edited tons of photos, and started writing several different reviews, but I can't stay focused enough to finish any of them. Thankfully it's the weekend (well nearly the weekend) and I am going to sit down and force myself to do it. Even if it means drinking some coffee. (Which I very very rarely do.)
This may not be a fully fleshed out review, but I thought it'd be fun to try some different flavors of Salt Water Taffy that I picked up during my last day trip to the shore.
Okay, I know pumpkin spiced products are already available, but it's not fall just yet. Summer doesn't end until the first official day of fall, which isn't until September 23rd, so let's pretend it's not September for a moment and eat some more sticky salt water taffy. I've got six more wacky flavors left to try.
(Today's flavors: Blueberry Muffin, Red Licorice, Cantaloupe, Honeydew, Watermelon, & Cinnamon Bun)
Summer is slipping through my fingers! Pumpkin spice items are already taking over the shelves, and I've only gone to the shore once! (For the record, I'm all about the pumpkin flavored stuff, but it's too soon!) I'm currently fighting tooth and nail to pack as much summery goodness into these last few days as I can, and since I was raised here on the east coast, nothing says summer like salt water taffy.

I'm heading down to the Jersey shore for the day, so I thought I'd review something beach-y. (Plus Cybele and I were discussing this product in our most recent Candyology101 podcast, so I'd better get the review up sooner rather than later.)
