Meiji Lemon Candies - Meiji Sampler (#2)

Meiji Lemon Candies - Meiji Sampler (#2)
This is the last item from my mini Meiji samplers!

Again, I couldn’t find any formal name for these candies (just like the Strawberry ones.)

The little lemon mascot is every-bit as cute as the strawberry one. I love all of Meiji’s box-art. The candy itself is the same as the strawberry and yogurt variations. Little Mentos-like candies, this time with a soft lemon color.

Like the strawberry flavor, these smell like tea. Maybe a citrus green tea, it’s such a lovely scent!

When I popped one into my mouth the candy coating is generic and sweet, then it give you a tea like flavoring! When I bite into the candy the inside is soft and crumbly and tastes like a delicious glass of lemonade, followed by a zesty lemon taste.

These are refreshing and wonderful, a fantastic summer candy!

Meiji Strawberry Candies - Meiji Sampler (#2)

Meiji Strawberry Candies - Meiji Sampler (#2)
I couldn’t find an official name for these anywhere on the net, they are similar to the yogurt candies, so maybe they are just a strawberry variation?

I love the little Strawberry mascot. Super cute!

When I opened the box they seemed to have a fruity tea-like smell wish a light hint of spearmint, and it was really lovely! I wish this was a perfume.

They look just like the yogurt based candies, reviewed here, but in a light pink color.

The shell has a soft strawberry yogurt-y taste, and inside the candy center is crumbly and sweet. They taste just like the Strawberry Gummis made by Kasugai (one of my favorite candies EVER.) The center also has a hint of ramune, or club soda like flavoring.

These are fantastic! I would buy a HUGE box of these. If you like Kasugai Strawberry Gummis, give these a try!

Meiji Yogurt Tablets - Meiji Sampler (#2)

Meiji Yogurt Tablets - Meiji Sampler (#2)
I wasn’t sure what to expect with these, as I have had lots of yogurt based/flavored candies and they are always… ‘different’ (in both the good and the bad way.)

When I opened the box they had no smell at all, and they looked like mini Mentos.
I was a bit cautious when I took the first bite.

The outside is a smooth sweet generic candy coating, but inside they are crumbly and a bit chewy. Very Mentos like!

The flavor is a bit of a citrus yogurt, it has the milky tang but there is a sour lemon-y note to it.

I was very happily surprised, I like these a lot! Tangy, fruity and refreshing. I highly recommend these!

Strawberry Heart Shaped Pocky,Chinatown PA

Strawberry Heart Shaped Pocky,Chinatown PA
Now I have had Strawberry Pocky before, but this is different. I have been hunting for this heart shaped one ever since I saw it on the net!

Normal Strawberry Pocky has a basic biscuit stick and a pale pink strawberry-flavored confectionery coating. This one is similar, it had a heart shaped basic biscuit stick but the strawberry coating is darker and has deep red flecks.

Chocorooms Meiji : Short Review

Chocorooms Meiji : Short Review
More Meiji goodness!

My sister grabbed these at a Five Below of all places, which was odd, but it seems like they are a permanent item. (At least I believe it is a standard item, and not a special or seasonal one, but I could be wrong.)

Before buying a box of our own, I had seen these all over the net (Do people still say that? Is "the net" hip?). These little snacks are quite popular and it's pretty obvious as to why. Look at them! They are so freaking cute!

Meiji Sampler (1 of 2 sets) - Chocolate Marble

Meiji Sampler (1 of 2 sets) - Chocolate Marble
The last candy from my first Meiji sampler, Meiji Marble. It’s sort of like M&M’s. A hard candy shell coats a little dollop of milk chocolate.

The chocolate is a sweet milk chocolate, a bit richer than the chocolate in M&M’s, with more of a chocolate pudding flavor. It is deeper and richer than milk chocolate M&M’s, and I really like it a lot.

These are fantastic, and I would buy these over Milk Chocolate M&M’s any day.

Reviews for the other candies in my other Meiji sampler are on the way!

Meiji Sampler (1 of 2 sets) - Meiji Apollo Strawberry

Meiji Sampler (1 of 2 sets) - Meiji Apollo Strawberry
These are another famous Meiji candy I have seen all over the net. I have always loved how they look and wanted to try them. I was so happy to see them available in the Meiji sampler pack.
Visually they are precious! Little mountain shapes topped with a strawberry peak, they are often replicated with polymers and used in DecoDen.
As far as taste goes, they aren’t that great. I like them more than the Meiji Strawberry Marble candies…but not by much. I really dislike Meiji’s idea of how Strawberry should taste. It’s so floral and perfumey, and leaves a bitter chemical aftertaste.
I was pretty disappointed in the flavor, but visually they are insanely cute. They would make great cake decorations, but I think they are not a great candy.

Meiji Sampler (1 of 2 sets) - Choco Baby

Meiji Sampler (1 of 2 sets) - Choco Baby
I have seen these on the net, on Emmymadeinjapan and RRCherrypie which are some of my youtube addictions, but I had never had them.
I assumed they were some hard chocolate candy, almost like a chocolate Tic-Tac. I was wrong!
These are delicious, soft, fudgey chocolate bits. They have a shiny waxy coating that prevents them from melting in your hands, and have a soft fudgy inside. They are milk chocolatey and wonderful!
If you see these around, give them a try! You’ll be surprised.

Meiji Sampler (1 of 2 sets) - Coffee Beat

Meiji Sampler (1 of 2 sets) - Coffee Beat
First of all, these are amazing. The packaging is adorable!

Look at the little mouse wearing a hat! It’s so cute my heart wants to explode!

The candies look just like chocolate covered coffee beans with a smooth glossy finish.

I took a bite…and they are delicious! Just like a mocha latte! The outside has a nice crunch, and inside is a fudgy chocolate coffee center than melts on your tongue.

My coffee-addicted boyfriend will love these. If I saw a larger size I would definitely pick it up. These are delicious!

Meiji Sampler (1 of 2 sets) - Strawberry Marble

Meiji Sampler (1 of 2 sets) - Strawberry Marble
The Meiji samplers are so adorable, they are perfect little portion sizes for a snack on the go and allow you to try candies before you commit to larger quantities of them. I wish American candies would make some of these sets!

Each package shows what it is on the front, with a photo of the candy and an adorable little mascot/image. On the backs we have letters of the alphabet and words. Great for kids. (Although I think the word ‘Yacht’ was a little out of place in this set.)

I started with the first item in the package, the Meiji Strawberry Marble candies.

Mikado, Cherry Hill NJ

Mikado, Cherry Hill NJ
My friend Kevin came by a few days ago and asked me to go to Mikado with him. Mikado has sushi, curry and all sorts of yummy treats.

Meiji Chocolate Bar with Strawberry Marshmallow filling (Review)

Meiji Chocolate Bar with Strawberry Marshmallow filling (Review)
I LOVE this package. I think it is insanely cute and alluring. I couldn’t help but pick it up.
I opened up the package and even the bag inside is adorable (and it keep the chocolate very fresh!) The bar smells like milky chocolate with a hint of artificial strawberry and a tangyness I can’t quite place. Somewhat like plain unflavored yogurt….

The chocolate melts instantly on your tongue, the yogurty tang seems to come from the chocolate itself and not the strawberries. The strawberry marshmallows are extremely artificial. It tastes the way those sickening fruity kiddy perfumes smell. Ick.
Taste-wise this chocolate bar isn’t that great, and I wouldn’t buy it again…but I ADORE this packaging. I might buy it again just to have the box forever. But I’m weird like that…
