Surfer Boy Pizza - Buckle Up, Brochachos!

After my lackluster New Coke experience, I wasn't going to try any other Stranger Things food items. Then a friend of mine went full-ham and bought a bunch of them so we could have a fun on-theme snack night while watching the (at the time) season finale. (I started this post way back then and never finished it.) It was super cute of them, and I always appreciate thoughtful gifts like that, but my expectations for the quality of the food were pretty low.

They got Eleven's Favorite waffle mix (which glows under black-light), two different flavors of Surfer Boy Pizza, and the weirdly nothing-to-do-with-Stranger-Things vegan "chicken" nuggets.

First course, Surfer Boy Pizza. We had two flavors, the Supreme (my go-to freezer pizza flavor) and Pineapple Jalapeno. A favorite of rad dudes and dudettes like our main man, Argyle from this season.

Gone Too Soon, My Favorite Discontinued Products - Part 1

Snyder's of Hanover Brick Oven Pizza Pretzel Sandwiches
: 2017- 2020

Link to my Review

The item that triggered this entire post! I loved these pretzel sandwiches, they were bold and flavorful, and were what I remember pizza Combos tasting like as a kid. These were actually recommended to me by a reader, and were available for about three years, but they were fairly hard to find. As of today, Snyder's confirmed (via tweet) that these are officially gone. I am heartbroken. You can still buy bags online from Amazon, but scalpers are upping the prices fast. I don't have any comparable product to this, you could say there are still Pizza Combos, but they really don't taste as good as you remember. They're so dry, and honestly the pizza flavor are hard to find these days as well. (Are they next on the chopping block?)

My New Guilty Pleasure Indulgence?

Snyder's Pizza Flavored Pretzel Sandwiches - Walmart $3.69
Pizza flavored snacks are one of my guilty pleasure junk food indulgences, but satisfying ones are getting harder to find. As an adult, I would buy a pizza lunachable here or there to scratch my itch. When they stopped using Tombstone pizza sauce (the monsters!), I'd go for my favorite bag Doritos which were a combination of pizza and ranch flavored chips. When those disappeared (RIP), I turned to pizza flavored Combos. The Combos are still available, but it is getting harder for me to find the big bags of them. Their slot at my local 7-Eleven has been full of the Cheddar version for a while. Thankfully, a while back, one of my readers suggested I look into these new Snyder's pretzel sandwiches.
It was a rainy day, everyone in the house was feeling under the weather with a slight cold, so I stopped at Walmart to buy some canned soup, and that's when the familiar craving surfaced. I wanted a ketchup-y cafeteria pizza flavored snack and I wanted it NOW. So I went into the chip aisle and finally scored a bag of these. Let's see if these can pass the test!

Deep Dish Pizza Cheese Curls - Ollie's Bargain Outlet $1.89

Deep Dish Pizza Cheese Curls - Ollie's Bargain Outlet $1.89
Ollie's had a trio of novelty Herr's products in stock and the prices were so low I couldn't resist buying them all! Even the flavors I was skeptical of! There were these Deep Dish Pizza curls, giant bags of Jalapeno Popper curls, and (the one I was most skeptical of) Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup curls. My pantry is overflowing with neon orange puffs, so lets see if these are worth hanging on to.

Thin and Crispy Spinach & Garlic Pizza - Aldi

Thin and Crispy Spinach & Garlic Pizza - Aldi
I just got back from an overnight trip to the Jersey shore. I had a lot of fun, and ate lots of junk food, but now I'm home and I'm tired, and lazy. What better time to cook up a freezer pizza? Plus it has spinach on it, so I can lie to myself and say it's healthier than all the junk food I ate the other day.

What I Ate Today: Wildwood Boardwalk Edition

We've got deep fried Oreos, candy bars, pickles, cookie dough, Kool-Aid...you name it, they'll fry it.
I went to the Wildwoods for the day, to spend a little time with my family and take my dog, Jack Jack, to the dog beach, and I thought it'd be fun to do a little "Day in The Life" style post with all the stuff I ate down the shore. So here we go!

efrutti Gummi Candy Pizza - Five Below

efrutti Gummi Candy Pizza Five Below
I hope you had an awesome weekend, because I did!

I hosted a BBQ for my friends on Saturday, spent some time with my family and filmed a few more YouTube video reviews on Sunday, and I even found a little time to relax on Monday. (Which was glorious!)

My idea of relaxing involved playing a LOT of Rogue Legacy, a nap, and enjoying a cotton candy scented bubble bath. I haven't felt this rested in ages, and rather than jump into a healthy or long-winded food review, I thought I would take it easy and write up something fun and short. So here's a tiny gummy pizza pie!

Insta-Foodie: What I ate on Sunday

If you're not following me on Instagram, you're missing out on all the stuff I've been munching on behind the scenes.

Along with massive amounts of junk food I share on the blog, I also like to cook and bake, so here's what I made on Sunday for my boyfriend and I. (He's vegetarian, so a lot of the food I've been eating/cooking lately is meatless, since I personally feel uncomfortable eating meat when we're together, but rest assured, I still love bacon and buffalo wings. I'm an omnivore with strong lean to the veggie side.)

Grilled Chicken with Jerk Sauce Pizza - Aldi: Cherry Hill, NJ

Grilled Chicken with Jerk Sauce Pizza - Aldi: Cherry Hill, NJ
This week has been absolutely crazy, and even though I have a ton of edited photos ready to go, I'm having a really hard time sitting down and typing. (Even though I run a food blog, writing is something I've always struggled with, and it's gotten easier with practice, but I still struggle with it a lot.) My thoughts are so spastic and I find it very hard to focus! Hopefully this review makes sense, because it's long overdue.

Anyway, I wanted to review something fun and interesting, and what's cooler than a Jerk chicken pizza?

Fancy Pizzas are back at Aldi!

Aldi is currently doing some kind of "taste from around the world" theme this week, so they re-released a bunch of their fancy pizzas.

I've already reviewed three of them, so check out my posts to see if they are worth picking up!

Spinach and Feta Thin Crust Pizza - Aldi: Cherry Hill, NJ

Spinach and Feta Thin Crust Pizza - Aldi: Cherry Hill, NJ
A giant pizza for $5.99? Yes please!

I love buying these Take & Bake pizzas from Aldi. They're affordable, delicious, and you have a decent array of flavors to choose from. For the last year or so, Aldi started releasing Special Buy versions of these pizzas with fancier flavors, but they're only available for a limited time and the pricing varies due to the cost of ingredients.

Not every special buy pizza is a winner, the last two were the Philly Cheesesteak and Chicken BBQ, which were both very disappointing, but this one...I've bought three times in a month.

Pizza Snack- H-Mart: Cherry Hill, NJ

Pizza Snack- H-Mart: Cherry Hill, NJ
More reviews of things that taste like other things! This time I have some light and crispy waffle-style chips from H-Mart that are supposed to taste like pizza. I'm a bit skeptical, so far I haven't have anything that recreates the flavoring of pizza as well as actual pizza, but I still wanted to give these a try.

Hearty Pizza with Sausage & Pepperoni Chunky Soup- Target: Cherry Hill, NJ

Hearty Pizza with Sausage & Pepperoni Chunky Soup- Target: Cherry Hill, NJ
That's right! Pizza. Flavored. Soup. Let that sink in for a moment.

I love pizza, and I like pizza-flavored chips and snacks, but a soup? It sounds like a bad idea, and it doesn't hurt that the Chunky-line has a pretty rough reputation. When I was younger, the vegetable flavored Chunky soup was my favorite lazy meal, because I'd open the can, dump it into my giant mug, microwave it, and I had an instant dinner! Even then I would admit that it didn't taste the best, but it was very filling and super easy.

After working at Panera bread, all canned soups were ruined for me forever. (Refrigerated or Frozen is definitely the way to go if you're not making homemade.) I'll still have the occasional canned vegetable-based soup when I'm sick, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try a pizza flavored soup. It's just too bad an idea not to try.

The Double Cheeseburger Pizza is back! (Now with +1 Bacon)

Oh man! It's back! I have been missing this pizza! I reviewed it last year, and was one of the few food bloggers to really enjoy it, so I've very happy (and slightly surprised) to see it return. (Although we all knew if it was coming back it was totally going to have bacon. We all saw bacon coming a mile away.)

I missed this pizza so much, that I even made my own recipe, but now I won't have to! I'll definitely be ordering this later this week.

Are any of you excited that it's back? Or am I the only one?

Beer Brat BBQ Pizza - Aldi: Cherry Hill, NJAs s

As seen on my Instagram Account
Beer Brat BBQ Pizza - Aldi: Cherry Hill, NJ
In 2014, several Aldi-exclusive brands released pizzas with some interesting flavors, like Chicken Club, Gyro, Tandoori, and Cuban. I had a lot of fun buying and trying them all, and while none of them were inedible, I can't say they were all enjoyable either. The Chicken club was one of the richest, cheesiest, and crispiest freezer pizzas I have ever had, the others? Well, they were fun concepts, but none worked nearly as well as the Chicken Club.

Even though I wasn't wowed by the last few Aldi pizzas I've reviewed, I still wanted to give this Beer Brat version a try. It's so different from the others, and it's  only specialty take-and-bake pizza they currently offer. (Although more might be on the way soon.) Let's see if this pizza was worth the purchase.

The box for this pizza was WAY too big for my photo set up, which is meant for tiny foods, so this photo was taken with my cellphone in the Aldi freezer case.

Unlike the other Aldi pizzas I've reviewed, this one is from their Take & Bake line, so it's kept in the refrigerated section instead of the freezer, and it's packaged similarly to a take-out pizza. The rest of the pizzas in this line are 16", while this one is only 14, so it's a bit smaller than usual, and it's a bit more expensive. Even with the price tag padded a little bit, it was still cheaper than a delivery pizza of the same size with the same amount of toppings. As far as the design goes, I like the simple brown cardboard and black text, and it does a good job of looking nice while staying relatively cheap. It isn't as gorgeous as other full color pizza boxes, but it gets the job done just fine.

I removed the shrink plastic from the refrigerated pizza, preheated the oven, and baked it until the crust started the brown and the cheese bubbled. (Just like you would with any other frozen/refrigerated pizza.) When it was done, it smelled sweet, like BBQ sauce and caramelized onions. The aroma was much sweeter than I originally thought it'd be, and I couldn't detect anything beer-y about it.

I sliced it up, and took a bite. I gotta say, I can't taste any beer in this at all. Part of me is relieved, I hate beer, but that does seem like false advertizing. The box said that this was covered with a "Beer BBQ sauce," but it tastes like Kraft Honey BBQ to me. It's really sweet, a little onion-y, and tomato-y. It's not bad at all, it's just really sweet. As for the rest of the pizza, the caramelized peppers and onions added a different texture, but they were really sweet as well, and the cheese blend was pretty mild. The strongest flavoring, other than the sauce, were the thick slices of bratwurst which added a slightly spicy and meaty flavor.

It's been a long time since I've eaten Bratwurst, I think I had some during a Christmas party in 2013, so I don't really have a vivid brat-based memory to compare this to, but to me, these slices taste like a better version of the sausage crumbles that delivery pizza usually comes with. These slices were moist, meaty, and they helped to offset the sweetness just a bit. (Moist and meaty... that was awful to type.)

I don't think I would buy this pizza again, it was just too sweet for me, it needs something strong to cut through all that sweetness, maybe some spicy peppers? Then again, that's my personal preference. If you enjoy the sweet BBQ sauce based pizzas from Papa John's, you'll love this one. This was better than the last three Papa John's pizzas I've tried, but it was just too sweet for me to want to repurchase.

Papa Johns better step-up their game, you're getting beaten by a no-frills grocery store brand.
