The new Do Us A Flavor finalists have been announced and all three options have left me cold. I normally try to keep a pretty open mind, but all three flavors feel a little too safe, and honestly...boring. Unless one of the new flavors happen to fall right into my lap, I doubt I'll be reviewing them, but when I was at Walmart the other day I spotted this smaller, snack-sized, baggie of the Limited Time flavor BLT chips in the checkout lane. These sound more interesting than the finalists, and they're a convenient snacking size, so why not check them out?

I have risen from the candy-wrapper-ashes! What a week.  

In short-sale-home-buying-hell news, (which I'm sure you're all sick of, and believe me, I am too) I had 5 different inspections this week and only 1 went well/passed. So, that was really awesome. (She said, sarcastically.) I'm waiting to get all the estimates back before I renegotiate, so I'm in for another month's worth of all this legal-goodness before I can say with confidence that I'll be moving in to a new place. BLAH.

In other, cheesier, news someone from Qdoba contacted me asking if I knew about their new queso of the month menu, and since I'd never eaten at their restaurant before, they sent me a $30 giftcard to try them out. (And an awesome cheese hat.) Last weekend my little family spent hours shopping for a new (used) car, so we were cold, cranky, and I really didn't feel up to making dinner, so I took Qdoba up on their offer.

There were a bunch of Hammond's bars in the Christmas section at Target and they just so happened to have a sale on buying three bars, and since I only had 2 stockings to fill this year, I treated myself to a little something sweet. And savory.

That's right! Not just a bacon and chocolate bar, but a bacon, chocolate and POTATO CHIP bar! And with a name like "Pigs N' Taters," how could I resist?

There was once a time where we thought that adding bacon to something automatically made it better. Bacon cheeseburgers? Genius! Bacon pancakes? Brilliant! Bacon Pop-tarts? Okay, this one I'm a little on the fence about.

I love bacon, and it's one of the reasons why I haven't adopted my boyfriend's vegetarian diet even though my personal eating habits lean towards the veggie side. When my sister and I survive an usually hard work week I always buy and cook an ENTIRE PACKAGE of bacon on the weekend and we eat the entire thing. (Throughout the day, not all at once. We tried eating the entire thing as breakfast and it was too much bacon. Which was a thing I never thought I'd ever say in my life, but it's true.) We call this bacon-feast, "real people breakfast" and it's usually served with eggs, toast, and all that well-balanced-breakfast stuff you see on TV commercials and cereal boxes. Just with 400% more bacon. Okay, I think I've proven my bacon-loyalty, but with that being said...I don't know how bacon will translate into Pop-Tarts, but I'm ready to find out! (Although to be honest...I'm going into this with really low expectations.)

Here's another Trader Joe's chocolate bar that was good enough to revisit. Instead of a popping candy gimmick, this time we have a bar that's filled with bacon ganache! Because everything is better with bacon, right?

There are always trends in food. These day's it's chia seed, quinoa, sriracha and Greek yogurt, what's next? Who knows! It really could be anything. (Maybe artichokes will make a comeback?) Anyway, right now practically every single food company out there is taking advantage of the current sriracha craze. Even though I myself am a fan of the famous Rooster sauce, I'm not obsessed enough to want it as a candy, or a flavored vodka, but jerky? Sounds good to me!

Bacon Mac & Cheese Chips (Lay's Do Us A Flavor) - Wawa

Out of the four, this was the hardest flavor for me to find. It took me four Wawas to find this mini bag and it was the last of it's kind in the entire store. With that being said, I am fairly certain that this flavor will win this year, not because it truly tastes better than the others, but because it appeals so strongly to the average American consumer. (We Americans love cheese, bacon and potato chips. It isn't rocket science.)

It's pretty sad that the winner is already so clear, but maybe these will taste so good that they will deserve to win? Let's find out!

I love bacon, but that doesn't mean I'm crazy enough to brush my teeth or bathe in it.

Like most delicious bad for you foods, this edible item has a cult following. In fact, bacon has practically become a novelty! You can buy bacon EVERYTHING! Don't get me wrong, I see the fun in all these novelty bacon items, and I am guilty of loving food scented candles and perfumes, but I'll stick to the real, edible, stuff. 

Knowing my love for bacon, and that I have a this food blog, my boyfriend who is more of a sausage person (Pfft, I swear I'm a mature 20+ year old) bought me this box of bacon flavored popcorn.

A lot of novelty products skimp on decent graphic design and aim for a more cartoon-y look, and this is the perfect example of that. The box art makes this look like more of a gag gift than a legitimately marketable product, but that may be the company's goal. It does catch the eye, which is a good thing, but it does so for all the wrong reasons. I mean bacon with a face on it? Actually it kind of looks like a bacon bow-tie... either way, it is pretty unappealing as far as a food item goes.

Something that makes this product a bit more interesting is the company's background. If you read the back of the box, or the popcorn bag, it tells you that the creators actually won money from America's Funniest Home Videos and used their winnings to create edible products, like Bacon Popcorn. 

Enough talk, is this stuff actually edible?

Meet my latest junk food addiction.
I rarely eat fast food, but when I do it's either Wendy's or White Castle. I haven't had McDonalds since I saw Supersize Me in the early 2000's, and I haven't had Chick-fil-a since their big anti-gay marriage scandal.  Since my beloved White Castle is an hour away in Toms River, Wendy's has become my go-to fast food joint.

Since fast food is typically not much to look at, I'll skip the aesthetics and get right into the review.

I used it to make these paninis! (That was pretty obvious, huh?) 

Like most of you know, I used to work at Panera Bread and I am still obsessed with their food. One of my favorite paninis was the (now discontinued) Chicken Bacon Dijon. I worked at every station at Panera and I usually made all of the paninis each weekend, so I knew what was in it. What's to stop me from recreating it on my own?

I was actually more excited about this chocolate bar than the Beef Jerky one!

The packaging is pretty much the same as the other flavor, reviewed here, so I’ll skip over that and focus on the taste.

Peanut butter, banana and chocolate. What else could you ever want? (Maybe bacon.) Most of you might already know this, but Elvis Presley popularized the combination with his love of grilled peanut butter and banana sandwiches. Personally, I love bananas, but banana flavoring can be tricky. I don’t want this to taste like that artificial banana Runts flavoring mixed with peanut butter and chocolate. (Just typing that makes me cringe.) I am really hoping that this has a nice, realistic, banana flavoring to it.

I am finally feeling better! So, I opted for some take out food. Odyssey Pizza, where I normally order my take out, has been renamed Eddie’s by new owners. So I figured I’d order something to see if the food was still the same.

For my birthday this year my boyfriend gave me a big bag of candy. Inside, I found Uncle Oinker’s Gummy Bacon. Thankfully, this is strawberry flavored and not bacon flavored. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE bacon and I LOVE gummy candy, but bacon-flavored gummies? No thank you.

The packaging is pretty rough, it feels like a student project. I wish they had put more cheesy jokes and such on the packaging and really pushed the bad-ness of it. I love things that are so bad they are good. What I DO like is that there is a little “bacon viewing window” just like real packages of bacon.

Inside the box there is a plastic pouch with four strips of gummy bacon.

Sorry for the slew of posts with bad photos, I didn’t have my actual camera on me so the last 3 posts were via cellphone camera. These next shots are a LOT better.

I went to the shore with my family, but the weather didn’t want to cooperate. So, when you can’t enjoy the beach…you enjoy the food! (Well I do that anyway…)

We went out for breakfast on Saturday to Wildwood Bagel, but I wasn’t in a very breakfast-mood. So, I ordered off the lunch menu instead. (It was about 11AM anyway.)
