Blurred Limes - A Trio of Lime Themed Reviews

3 Lime Reviews

I freaking love lime, and I also love putting a dent in my foodie backlog, so today we have a triple dose of citrus. (No need to worry about scurvy!) Three lime products, one a returning classic, compared to two limited edition releases. Which is best and how do they rate on a scale of 1-10 in terms of lime-y-ness? We shall see!

All the Fun, Without the Trauma - Skittles Shriekers!

Skittles Shriekers!

Zombie Skittles embodied the impish nature of Halloween. Each candy you consumed may be a treat, or a vile, rotten-zombie-flavored trick. That said, the concept was fantastic, but the end result was that I felt hesitation, and a mild fear, while eating Skittles. Think of the episode of the Simpson's where Lisa tests Bart to see if he is smarter than a hamster using an electrified cupcake. After a few vile, onion-y, rotten zombie flavored Skittles I found myself not wanting to eat the rest of the bag. I ended up taking them to work where a coworker or two gave them a shot, and then, once the novelty had worn off, into the trash they went.

Did I love them? Yes, but more-so in theory than in practice. I mean, no one is buying Bean Boozled boxes for casual snacking consumption, it's a fun game, and gross novelty, not a yummy snack. Same goes for Zombie Skittles. When I heard that Shriekers would be replacing them this year, I was intrigued. Same concept, but (hopefully) slightly more edible and less miserable.

I'm in!

Lidl's take on Skittles - Worth the Buy?

Sweet & Sour Crunchy & Chewy Candy - Lidl

Chocolates are easy to copy. I have seen variations of peanut butter cups from pretty much every store out there from big chains to mom and pop's, tons of candy bars that look an awful lot like Snickers, but aren't, and I have even seen plenty of takes on m&m's, but fruity candy? That's harder to dupe.

There are a few exceptions, like gummy bears, which are available from tons of brands, but how often do you see a knock-off Skittles?

I have seen a few faux Starburst over the years, but something that this closely matches Skittles is so rare. They even have 3 of the same flavors as Original Skittles, and it comes in normal and sour flavors. How will these compare?

The Power of VOODEW 2, Electric-Boogaloo

VooDew 2 - 7-Eleven

Mountain Dew is keeping the Halloween spirit alive with their second Halloween Mystery Flavor, MTN DEW VOO-DEW TWO (electric Boogaloo), and it's just what the Witch-Doctor ordered. (And it's a lot of fun to say out loud.)

I was a huge fan of last year's version. Everything from the label design to the flavor itself was so well done, and now it's back again, this time with a new mystery to solve.

When I Dip, You Dip, We Dip!

Skittles Dips  - CVS

Things I have learned during quarantine: Vol 1
  1. My dark under eye circles are definitely genetic
  2. Adding potato chips to chocolate chip cookies is the best thing since sliced bread
  3. I don't like yogurt even half as much as the rest of the world
I have avoided trying these not-so-new yogurt-covered Skittles because I think yogurt covered anything is disgusting. I know it has it's fans, otherwise the trail mix section at the supermarket wouldn't be 50% yogurt-covered-whatevers, but I just don't get the appeal. It's as if someone looked at chocolate covered raisins and thought, how could I make this, but sadder? Yogurt!
Someone must have looked at Skittles and thought the same thing, because these now exist, and after seeing them consistently on my Instagram feed for months, I finally caved in and grabbed a pack.

Want to Pavlov-Yourself into Hating Skittles?

Rotten Zombie Skittles
I've been putting a lot of overtime and odd-hours in at work, and it's left me feeling like the "Working Dead." (A must-listen for anyone working a 9-5.) Long story short, I may not be an actual zombie, but I certainly feel like one, so it's the perfect time to give these Rotten Zombie Skittles a try. (Against my better judgement.)
My first impression of this item is that it's a lot of fun. Instead of using only spooky colors (like Sour Patch Kids), or re-releasing the same ol' product in spooky shapes (like Reese's), or even just changing the wrapping to a Halloween theme (like m&m's), Skittles' seasonal offering actually tries to put the "trick" back into "trick or treat."
As a Halloween enthusiast, and food blogger I have to point out that the concept is certainly not original. Skittles took the Beanboozled concept, gave it a Halloween-themed coat of paint, and offered it in shareable portions as well as snack-sized Halloween giveaway baggies. But is giving away trickster, potentially inedible, candy for Trick or Treaters a good idea? I guess it all depends on how rotten this flavor truly is...it's time to find out.

Sweet Heat Round 2: Skittles Edition

Sweet Heat Skittles - Wawa
I really enjoyed the Sweet Heat Starbursts, so when my friend Melissa mentioned that she saw the Skittles version at Wawa, I drove over there (got some gas) and grabbed a bag. Now we shall see is these items are unique enough to stand on their own, or if one should reign supreme.

Skittles Brightside - Wawa (Quickie Review)

Skittles Brightside - Wawa
What exactly are they going for here? Are they bright colors? Light and refreshing flavors? A simple counter-product to their equally confusing Darkside mix? Or are they just fans of The Killers? (When You Were Young is my favorite song, and for the record, I belt it out in the car like a champ!)
I don't really understand the thought process behind this mix, but I am intrigued by some of the flavors. So, without further delay, let's jump into the review!

While you're busy entering the contest, I'm going to start munching on some spooky seasonal Skittles.

America Mix Skittles - Walmart

America Mix Skittles - Walmart
Apparently Memorial Day/Fourth of July themed candies are a thing and for some reason all of the candy companies are releasing theirs super early. So...America Mix Skittles. That's a thing. Part of me wants to make fun of it, because it's America-themed Skittles, but as cheesy as it is, it's nice to see Skittles doing something new, and let's face it, it's a good marketing move. With the upcoming election and national holidays these are going to sell like hot cakes!

Let's get this review started! Taste the patriotism!

Skittles Orchards - Five Below - Marlton, NJ

Skittles Orchards - Five Below - Marlton, NJ
This package may say "new" but these have been out for quite some time now, and to be honest, I've been avoiding them and originally didn't plan on reviewing them.

I love Skittles and fruity candies, so why was I going out of my way not to buy these? Well, when Skittles announced that they were going to do an Orchard-themed mix I was initially interested, it sounds like a fun and refreshing flavor mix, right? But when I saw the flavor line-up I was really disappointed.

Desserts Skittles - Dollar General: Berlin,NJ

Desserts Skittles - Dollar General: Berlin,NJ
Don't let the package fool you, these aren't really "new," well, at least they aren't anymore. These came out a while ago, and a lot of food blogs have already reviewed them, but I'm still working my way through my food hoard, and I'm a bit behind the times. These might not be all that new anymore, but I still want to see what these dessert Skittles taste like. Let's get to it!

Holiday Mix Skittles - DollarTree: Cherry Hill, NJ

Holiday Mix Skittles - DollarTree: Cherry Hill, NJ
We all know by now that I'm a bit of a Scrooge about the winter holidays, so I didn't buy very many holiday themed foods or candies, but this odd little item caught my eye. It's a mix of Skittles that are only red and green, and the flavors in this mix are a bit...off.
