Mallo Cup, is that you? - Reese's Mallow-Top

Mallow-Top Reese's Cup - Walgreens

We all know I dislike white chocolate, but I love marshmallows, so when this item was announced I was torn. On the one hand, fluffernutter sandwiches are amazing, and this has the protentional to taste like that AND chocolate. Brilliant combination, right? Or it'll taste like white-chocolate grossness. It's kind of a 50/50 chance.

With those odds, I didn't want to overcommit. Luckily for me, this flavor is available in a wide array of sizes, 5-packs, big bags for Easter, and this handy dandy two pack. Let's see what we're dealing with here and if I made the right decision.

Better than Oreo - Benton's Carrot Cake Creme Filled Cookies

Carrot Cake Creme Filled Cookies - Aldi

Easter is literally this weekend. How did that happen? Where does the time go? I think munching on clearance Valentine's Day candy post-holiday has messed with my perception of seasonal snacking time. Spring is officially here! To celebrate, I have another seasonal Aldi cookie.

You know, after how bad the Hot Cocoa Cremes were (I ultimately threw them out) I thought I would be done with Benton's seasonal cookies, but the Red Velvet Cake flavor really did win me over.  Let's hope that Carrot Cake is just as awesome.

Mr. Owl's Eggs? - Tootsie Roll Eggs

Tootsie Roll EggsDollar Tree

Tootsie Rolls are one of those products I never think to buy on their own, but I am always happy to see it in a candy dish or in a seasonal candy bag. They're simple, chewy, chocolatey, and unlike other candies, they still taste exactly how I remember them. (Can't say the same about Crunch bars or Buncha Crunch, have you guys eaten those lately? What the heck happened to it?!)

Other than a few new flavors of Tootsie Pops over the years, like banana, pomegranate and others, there hasn't been much innovation to their product line. Which is why these Tootsie Eggs, essentially Tootsie Rolls with a crispy sugary shell, were so intriguing. Would it drastically change my opinion on the candy? After all, I'm a sucker for a crispy shell. I love chicklet-style gum, I love the candy shell on Cadbury eggs, m&m's, and the Reese's cup with Reese's Pieces mixed in is phenomenal. Probably my favorite new thing Reese's has done in the last 5 years. So, why not see what a crispy shell can do for a classic like Tootsie.

2 Watermelon Kombuchas - Battle of the "Booch"

GT Watermelon Wonder and Lidl's Organic Spring Fling Kombucha  - from Lidl

I live for the summer, but I also adore Halloween, so I find myself feeling very conflicted when the season starts to change, and it's hitting me harder this year than ever before. On one hand, the days get shorter, and the temperature drops, so no more sun and tank tops, but there's Halloween candy and spooky decor to look forward to, which warms my black little heart.

Why can't there be a real Summerween, like in Gravity Falls? It's like it was custom made for me!

Anyway, I spotted these watermelon themed kombucha flavors at Lidl and thought they would be a fun foodie send off for the dumpster-fire that was summer 2020.

Strawberry Shortcake Croissant Doughnut - Dunkin' Donuts

Strawberry Shortcake Croissant Doughnut - Dunkin' Donuts
How could I go to Dunkin' Donuts for coffee and NOT get a doughnut? That's just unnatural.

I already had plans to go to Dunkin' on my way home to grab the pistachio iced coffees (reviewed here), but right before my work day ended I saw Matt Zion's post that there was a new doughnut available for spring 2016. I figured, why not kill two food-review-birds with one stone and try both in one go?

Boom Chicka Pop Lemon Drop Kettle Corn - Target: Marlton, NJ

Boom Chicka Pop Lemon Drop Kettle Corn
- Target: Marlton, NJ
Here's one of the goodies I scooped on on Easter clearance. I was originally going to buy one of those Peep-shaped lollipops, but this bag of popcorn was the same price. One lollipop versus a whole bag of popcorn? I think I made the right choice.

Every time I see this brand on the shelves I sing THIS song by Superbus inside my head. The brand name just fits into the song so well! "Boom-Chicka-Pop!" (I went to Paris for three days way back when I was in middle school, the best thing about my trip was watching the French version of MTV and learning about foreign pop music. If you like Tchi-Cum-Bah check out my favorite song, Lola)

Enough rambling and pop music, on to the review!

Lemon Delight Peeps - Target: Marlton, NJ

Lemon Delight Peeps - Target: Marlton, NJ

All of these Limited Edition Peeps were in the Easter clearance sections, even though I am pretty sure they weren't released as Easter-specific items, but cheap candy is cheap candy! Who am I to complain? There were lemon, lime and orange versions, and although all three were there, I decided to just grab the lemon and the lime because they were the ones I was most interested in.

Carrot Cake Cookies - Aldi: Marlton, NJ

Carrot Cake Cookies - Aldi: Marlton, NJ
Happy Easter to those of you who celebrate. It seems like carrot cake is becoming a popular flavor for Easter cookies and sweets, and while I like the trend, a lot of the items have been way too sweet for my personal preferences. I like the idea behind these cookies, but that layer of white chooclate has me a bit worried.

Carrot Cake Egg - Gift (Quickie Review)

Carrot Cake Egg - Gift
Easter is literally tomorrow, so I am going to try and get through the last of my Easter related food items tonight. To kick things off, a super short review of this Russel Stover Carrot Cake Egg.

Today's the 1st Day of Spring! Go get yourself some free water ice!

What kind of food blogger would I be if I didn’t remind all of you that today is the first day of spring?
It’s going to possibly snow here in Jersey (boo) but you can still go out and get a free water ice!

Sour Patch Kid Jelly Beans - Target: Cherry Hill, NJ

Sour Patch Kid Jelly Beans - Target: Cherry Hill, NJ
As Cybele said in our latest Candyology101 podcast, Easter is the biggest candy holiday of the year. Since there are so many sweets on the shelves, I picked up a few to let you know if they were worth checking out. (Click here to see all of my previous Easter posts. A lot of those items, including the Carrot Cake m&m's, are back this year.)

If any of you have walked down the seasonal candy aisle you've seen that every candy company and their grandma released a version of jelly beans. Seriously, there are so many varieties! It's no longer just fruit, spice, and Jelly Belly. We now have Jolly Rancher, Laffy Taffy, Nerd, several different versions of Starburst, and even Swedish Fish. I grabbed a few of these name brand novelty versions, because a lot of companies just slap their branding onto a product and that's that. I want to see if these candies are really worthy of having their own bean. To start, one of the brands I was most excited for, Sour Patch.

Limited Edition ‘Shure, Bert’ Oreos - Walmart : Cherry Hill, NJ

Limited Edition ‘Shure, Bert’ Oreos - Walmart : Cherry Hill, NJ
Another limited edition Oreo! This time the filling is flavored with a mixture of lime and raspberry sherbet. My boyfriend actually bought these before I did, and he told me they were review worthy, so I went out and bought my own bag.

The packaging is the same yellow-orange color as the vanilla/golden/blonde Oreos. The only distinct design differences have been the addition of “Limited Edition Ice Cream,” “Rainbow Shure, Bert,” and an image of a sherbet ice cream cone. My only gripe is that this is NOT rainbow sherbet. Traditionally, orange is also in the mix, so I wish Oreo had included orange in the filling, or made the cookies orange flavored. (Sometimes lemon is also in rainbow sherbet, so that would have been nice too.)

Key Lime Cake Doughnut -Krispy Kreme : Collingswood, NJ

Key Lime Cake Doughnut -Krispy Kreme : Collingswood, NJ
The key lime cheesecake doughnut I reviewed yesterday was pretty yummy, even though there wasn’t much filling, but how will this cake doughnut taste?
This time, the doughnut has a cake base with the same key lime icing, but the whole thing is topped with cream.

Right off the bat, this doughnut is a mess! It is a typical doughnut with a hole in the middle, that hole is topped/filled with cream. When I opened the package cream was everywhere!

Key Lime Cheesecake Doughnut -Krispy Kreme : Collingswood, NJ

Key Lime Cheesecake Doughnut -Krispy Kreme : Collingswood, NJ
The original, glazed, Krispy Kreme doughnuts are amazing, but their seasonal flavors have always been a bit of a let down. Right now the company is promoting 2 different key lime donuts: Key Lime Cake and Key Lime Cheesecake. Since key lime is one of my favorite flavors, I am giving these a shot.
This cheesecake-doughnut is topped with graham cracker pieces and a tangy lime icing. Inside, there is supposed to be a creamy key-lime-cheesecake filling.

FUN Sweets Banana Cotton Candy - ???

FUN Sweets Banana Cotton Candy - ???
This semester is finally getting the better of me, so I am queuing some reviews now so that I won’t miss another update.
Today’s update is an Easter gift from my boyfriend. A little tub of banana cotton candy!
The packaging is a mixture of cute and frightening. That face is just…off. I think it’s the eyes. I can tell that the designers were going for big eyes to be cute, but these are just too big and detailed when compared to the rest of the design. As for the tub itself, it is surprisingly sturdy and pretty useful. (I clean these tubs out and use them to hold supplies for my daycare art classes.)
I was a bit worried about how this would taste because I am not a fan of banana flavored sweets. They always taste the same. (They all taste like banana runts!) I expected this cotton candy to be artificial with an obnoxious scent, but it actually smelled very mild.

Gobstoppers Eggbreakers - Target: Cherry Hill, NJ

Gobstoppers Eggbreakers - Target: Cherry Hill, NJ
Happy belated Easter! Sorry for missing yesterday’s update! My mother usually hosts Easter dinner but she is currently recovering from surgery, so I took over her duties this year and between cooking and cleaning... I didn’t get around to posting an update.
I actually forgot I had these to review!
Gobstoppers are one of my favorite candies. While I love the original, my absolute favorite version has to be the Heartbreakers. (I love them so much I used them to make THIS animation.) Today I have the Easter variety, which is a version I have never had before.
This time, instead of a bag, the candies are inside a cardboard carton in the shape of an Easter basket. The colors are REALLY bright, but that is standard for all variations of Gobstoppers and most (if not all) Wonka candies. Unlike the original or Valentine’s Day version, the portion is much smaller, and the price is much lower.

Mini Cadbury Caramel Eggs - Walmart : Somerdale, NJ

Mini Cadbury Caramel Eggs - Walmart : Somerdale, NJ
Check out my mini Creme Egg Review Here!
The packaging is the same as the previous flavor. (If you want to see my thoughts on that, check out my creme egg review.)
Just like the creme variety, you get one dozen mini eggs. This time the eggs smell like sweet milk chocolate. There aren’t any burnt sugar, vanilla, or caramel notes.

Mini Cadbury Creme Eggs - Walmart : Somerdale, NJ

Mini Cadbury Creme Eggs - Walmart : Somerdale, NJ
Back in October I reviewed the full sized Halloween Scream Egg (review here). Now that it’s officially Spring, Easter candies are everywhere. This year I picked up a few different Cadbury Creme Eggs to review. (The mini creme and mini caramel versions.)
These mini eggs are inside a plastic shell-casing that looks like a mix between an egg carton, and a diorama. There is quite a bit of packaging to these eggs. There is a cardboard bottom, purple plastic carton bottom, clear shell top and stickers holding the whole thing together. (Not to mention the foil on each individual egg.) While the presentation is cute, it does make a lot of waste.

White Chocolate Carrot Cake m&m’s - Walmart : Somerdale, NJ

White Chocolate Carrot Cake m&m’s - Walmart : Somerdale, NJ
I first heard about these on Candy Blog (One of my favorite foodie sites!)  My boyfriend and I love carrot cake, how could we pass this up? It turns out…these were hard to find. This flavor is Walmart exclusive and only one Walmart within 50 miles of my home carried them. (I called 3 different stores and drove to 2. One sold out but still listed them as in stock and the other did have them but they were hidden behind other candy boxes.)
After a decent journey, I finally found them. I hope they were worth the trouble.
The bag is a creamy peach-color with lighter, wiggly, lines in the background. I really like the color of this bag because it’s different from all the Easter pastels most candies are using right now. (Baby blues, purples and pinks.) There is a cute little slice of carrot cake on the front and the green m&m mascot is wearing some cute bunny ears. Overall I like the look of this bag, it isn’t too cluttered, or obnoxiously festive, and everything is cohesive.

Tuna Onigiri

Tuna Onigiri
Another treat my boyfriend picked up at the Cherry Blossom Festival! Tuna Onigiri!

He really enjoyed it. Years ago I made onigiri before with my sister but we just filled them with random things we had around. This one was filled with cooked tuna. Yummm.
